Kharif Farmer–Scientist Dialogue and Farmer Award Ceremony Held

Sri Ganganagar: A one-day grand Kharif Farmer–Scientist Dialogue and Farmer Award Distribution Ceremony was organized on Tuesday at the Agricultural Research Centre, Sri Ganganagar, under the ATMA scheme on the theme of natural farming.

The program commenced with Saraswati Vandana in the presence of Joint Director of Agriculture Dr. Satish Kumar Sharma and other public representatives. Dr. Sharma elaborated on the importance of natural farming and its growing relevance in sustainable agriculture.

At the outset, Agricultural Research Officer Mr. Jagjeet Singh delivered a detailed technical presentation on natural and organic farming practices, highlighting the significance of inputs such as Jeevamrit, Beejamrit, Dashparni, and Neemastr in sustainable agriculture systems.

Progressive farmer Mr. Giridharilal Gedar, who has been practicing natural farming for the past 10 years, shared his experiences with the farming community. Assistant Professor of Plant Pathology at the Agricultural Research Centre, Mr. Pradeep Kumar, discussed the management of diseases affecting Kharif crops.

Assistant Director of Horticulture Mr. Pradeep Sharma briefed participants about horticulture department schemes and emphasized the importance of kitchen gardening. He encouraged farmers to grow quality vegetables at home under their own supervision to ensure better health and reduce household expenditure.

The program was presided over by former Rajasthan government minister Mr. Surendra Pal Singh T.T., who in his address highlighted the importance and relevance of natural farming. He stated that natural farming is not merely an alternative but a necessity for a healthy society and a secure future. He urged farmers to reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers and pesticides and adopt natural farming practices.

He further emphasized that produce from natural farming is not only chemical-free and nutritious but also helps in maintaining soil fertility, conserving water, and ensuring environmental balance. He added that adopting natural farming would help provide future generations with poison-free food, a clean environment, and better health. He also encouraged farmers to take maximum benefit of various agricultural schemes and subsidies offered by the central and state governments.

Speakers Smt. Priyanka Belan, Mr. Satpal Kasania, and Mr. Atmaram Tarar also urged farmers to adopt natural farming, stating that due to the harmful effects of chemical-based agriculture, natural and organic farming has become a necessity of the time. They highlighted that it reduces cultivation costs while ensuring healthier food for future generations and should be promoted as a mass movement.

Assistant Director of Agriculture Mr. Sushil Kumar Sharma provided detailed information about departmental facilities available to farmers.

Under the ATMA scheme for the year 2025–26, selected farmers were honored with symbolic cheques and medals for their outstanding performance in various agricultural activities.

Deputy Project Director (ATMA) Mr. Sudesh Kumar explained the importance of natural farming inputs and advised farmers to actively participate in ATMA initiatives such as training programs, exposure visits, farmer awards, and agricultural fairs to adopt innovations and increase productivity and income.

Project Director (ATMA) Dr. Vinod Singh Gautam expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, farmers, public representatives, and officials. He stated that the objective of the program was to promote awareness about modern agricultural techniques, natural farming, departmental schemes, and to encourage excellence among farmers.

The program was attended by several officials and progressive farmers including Mr. Pradeep Dherd, Mr. Surendra Godara, Mr. Mahendra Pal, Mr. Shanti Dharival, Smt. Cheshta Sardana, Smt. Santosh Bawari, Mr. Shiv Prakash Teharpuria, and Mr. Ramprakash Godara, along with departmental officers, employees, and public representatives. The proceedings were conducted by Mr. Pradeep Sharma.
