Kota: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Kota Unit, has arrested Chetak driver constable Hariom, posted at Udyog Nagar Police Station, while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹7,000. The constable had reportedly been demanding money from a complainant in exchange for settling a purported case, despite the fact that neither a complaint nor an FIR had been registered in the matter.
According to ACB Director General Govind Gupta, the complainant approached the bureau alleging that his neighbors had filed a false complaint against his son at Udyog Nagar Police Station. During the inquiry, constable Hariom allegedly summoned the complainant to the police station and demanded ₹15,000 to dispose of the matter. It was further alleged that he forcibly took ₹5,000 from the complainant’s pocket and continued pressuring him to pay the remaining amount.
Acting on the complaint, the ACB conducted a verification process. During the verification on June 15, the accused reportedly agreed to accept ₹8,000, confirming the demand for a bribe. Following this, the bureau planned a trap operation.
On Thursday, a trap team led by Additional Superintendent of Police Vijay Swarnkar and Deputy Superintendent of Police Anees Ahmed carried out the operation outside Udyog Nagar Police Station. The team caught constable Hariom red-handed while accepting ₹7,000 from the complainant. The arrest created a stir within the police station. ACB officials are currently interrogating the accused and have also conducted a search of his residence.
Sources revealed that Hariom has been serving in the police department for nearly 15 years and had been posted in the Police Lines for a long period. He was assigned daily duty on a Chetak patrol vehicle at Udyog Nagar Police Station. On Thursday, after completing his duty from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., he allegedly called the complainant outside the police station and accepted the bribe.
Udyog Nagar Station House Officer (SHO) Lal Yadav stated that no complaint or report regarding tree-cutting had been registered against the complainant’s son. Despite this, constable Hariom allegedly attempted to extort money by intimidating and pressuring the complainant.
Udyog Nagar Police Station has remained in the spotlight due to several controversies this year. Earlier, a constable deployed on a Dial-112 vehicle was accused of illegally detaining and robbing a youth, leading to his dismissal from service. In another case, a constable was suspended after going missing from duty. Additionally, three police personnel were line-attached following allegations of assault on a BJP functionary.
