Sri Ganganagar: As part of the “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan” (Drug-Free India Campaign) being implemented by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment under the leadership of District Collector Dr. Amit Yadav and Superintendent of Police Harishankar, a drug de-addiction awareness programme was organized at the Government Agriculture College, functioning under the Agricultural Research Centre. The event was held as part of the ongoing “Nasha Mukt Bharat Week” being observed ahead of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26.
During the programme, students were sensitized about the harmful effects of substance abuse, its social, economic, and psychological consequences, and the crucial role of youth in building a drug-free society.
A thought-provoking short film depicting the devastating impact of addiction was screened on the occasion. The emotional film deeply moved the students by illustrating how substance abuse gradually destroys an individual’s dreams, family happiness, and the future of society.
Addressing the gathering, Vikram Jiyani from the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment made an emotional appeal to the youth. He stated that the present time is not only about pursuing education or preparing for a career but also about making the right choices in life.
He remarked, “Today is the time to choose. You must decide whether you want to choose your dreams or addiction. Both paths cannot be followed together.” He further emphasized that the fight against drug abuse is not merely the responsibility of the government, law enforcement agencies, or the administration, but a collective responsibility of the entire society.
During the programme, students pledged to stay away from drugs and to spread awareness among their peers and communities. Speakers highlighted that the vision of a Developed India can only be achieved when the nation’s youth are healthy, educated, aware, and free from addiction.
The event concluded with students and staff members collectively taking a pledge to contribute towards building a Drug-Free India and to carry the message of anti-drug awareness to every village and household.
Among those present on the occasion were V. S. Nain, Dr. L. K. Jain, Raghuveer Meena, Poornaram Godara, Amilal, Dr. B. S. Meena, and other dignitaries and faculty members.
