####Congress Observes Sanjay Gandhi’s Death Anniversary with Anti-Dowry and Drug-Free India Pledge in Udaipur

Udaipur,  Marking the death anniversary of former Member of Parliament and senior Congress leader Late Sanjay Gandhi, the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee organized a series of commemorative activities in Udaipur on Wednesday. As part of a five-point programme, a seminar and public pledge ceremony focusing on anti-dowry awareness and the Drug-Free India Campaign was held at Gawari Chowk under the leadership of Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary and Spokesperson Pankaj Kumar Sharma.

The event began with floral tributes to the portrait of Late Sanjay Gandhi. Participants paid their respects and remembered his contributions toward youth engagement, social development, and nation-building initiatives.

Addressing the gathering, Pankaj Kumar Sharma said that Sanjay Gandhi played a significant role in encouraging young people to participate in the process of nation-building and social transformation. He noted that even decades later, the values of social responsibility and public service associated with his work continue to inspire future generations.

Highlighting the objectives of the programme, Sharma described dowry and substance abuse as two of the most serious social challenges confronting Indian society today. He stated that the dowry system continues to inflict economic and emotional hardship on countless families, while drug addiction is emerging as a major threat to the aspirations and future of the country's youth.

“Dowry and addiction are not merely personal issues; they are social evils that hinder progress and weaken the foundation of society. Every citizen must take responsibility for eliminating these practices and contribute toward building a healthier and more equitable nation,” he said.

Calling upon young people to take the lead, Sharma urged them to launch awareness campaigns in their communities and become ambassadors of social change. He emphasized that meaningful transformation can only be achieved when youth actively participate in challenging harmful traditions and promoting positive values.

During the programme, all attendees collectively pledged neither to give nor accept dowry and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting efforts aimed at creating a drug-free society. Participants also expressed their determination to spread awareness about the harmful consequences of addiction and the importance of social equality.

Several social workers, party members, and local residents attended the event, including Ashok Tamboli, Shahid Hussain, Nikita Menaria, Gauranshi, Lipika, Tanmay, Jigyasa, Nilesh, Vipul, and other distinguished guests.

Earlier in the day, Congress leaders and workers gathered at the Congress Media Centre in Rakshabandhan, Dhanmandi, where floral tributes were offered to former Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee President Master Adityendra and former Member of Parliament and Padma Shri awardee Lakshmi Kumari Chundawat on the occasion of their birth anniversaries. Leaders recalled their contributions to public life, literature, social service, and the development of Rajasthan.

The programmes collectively reflected the Congress party’s emphasis on social reform, youth participation, and the promotion of values aimed at building a progressive and inclusive society.
