Hindustan Zinc, the world’s largest integrated zinc producer and one of the top 10 silver producers globally, is advancing educational outcomes for students across 76 schools in rural Rajasthan through its flagship Shiksha Sambal initiative. Since 2018, over 47,000 students have been benefitted through the year-round academic support with focused emphasis on Science, Mathematics and English.

As part of its efforts to promote experiential learning and future readiness, the company recently concluded the 9th Summer Camp, providing over 1,600 students with hands-on exposure to STEM, digital technologies, innovation, arts, sports and other co-curricular activities alongside academic learning. The camp was also strengthened by the contribution of volunteers from leading institutions such as University of Delhi and Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), alongside employees and local community members.
To ensure continuous learning during vacation periods, Shiksha Sambal conducts month-long residential summer camps alongside non-residential camps across its 6 operational districts – Ajmer, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Rajsmand, Salumbar, Udaipur in Rajasthan.
Bhavesh Menaria, Government Senior Secondary School Gawardi, Rajsmand, participant at the 9th Residential Summer Camp, shared, "Before attending the camp, STEM learning and digital tools were merely concepts I had only read about. Working on hands-on projects with mentors helped me understand how technology can solve real-world problems.”
The initiative equips young learners with the skills, confidence and broader perspectives needed to thrive in an increasingly dynamic world. Through sustained mentoring and targeted interventions, Shiksha Sambal is expanding access to quality education for thousands of young learners by combining academic excellence with Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, digital literacy, leadership development and career guidance.
Adding further, Preeti Rao, Government Girls Senior Secondary School Agucha, Bhilwara, participant at the Non-residential Summer Camp said, “Participating in the camp helped me improve my communication, problem-solving and digital skills. The exposure to new ideas and practical learning experiences has motivated me.”
Over the years, the Shiksha Sambal has emerged as a catalyst for educational transformation across rural Rajasthan, delivering measurable improvements in academic performance and student engagement. The impact of these interventions is reflected in the programme’s FY26 results. Students supported under Shiksha Sambal recorded a 92.53% pass rate in Class 10 and an impressive 99.43% pass result in Class 12 board examinations. Rajasthan’s pass percentage in the past decade has been around 67.66. However, through the state’s support to such academic initiatives, today Rajasthan stands on a 96% pass rate which has been recorded with the 37 schools under Shiksha Sambal which has achieved a perfect 100% pass result.*
Sharing his experience, Hanshika Verma, Government Senior Secondary School Putholi, Chittorgarh, said, "The additional support helped me strengthen concepts that I struggled with earlier. The guidance and study material provided through Shiksha Sambal gave me the confidence."
