Ahar Mahasatiya Gangukund Hosts Cleanliness Drive and Live Water Rescue Demonstration

Udaipur: A cleanliness drive (Shramdaan) was organized at Ahar Mahasatiya Gangukund on Sunday under the joint initiative of the Lake Conservation Citizens Forum (Jheel Hitaishi Nagarik Manch) and Aakriti Newage Foundation. Following the cleanup activity, a live rescue demonstration was conducted to educate citizens on how to safely rescue a person in danger of drowning.

The demonstration was led by former councillor Manohar Choudhary, while Kamlesh Purohit and Ghanshyam Paliwal jumped into the kund to perform a realistic rescue operation, providing valuable awareness on emergency response and water safety.

The event was attended by several distinguished guests, including former Collector Sumit Lal Bohra, former City Magistrate Yaseen Pathan, former Additional District Magistrate Suresh Vyas, former Vice Chancellor Umashankar, former Deputy Director of the Fisheries Department Ismail Ali Durga, Dr. Bhupendra Vyas (Professor, B.N. Pharmacy), former Dean of the Fisheries Department Dr. Vimal Sharma, Superintending Engineer Gyan Prakash Soni, Gangukund Vikas Samiti President Jagat Nagda, Lok Jan Seva Sansthan President Jaikishan Choubey, Bharat Jain, Mukesh Soni, and many other eminent citizens, who appreciated the initiative.

Founder of the Lake Conservation Citizens Forum, Haji Sardar Mohammad, said that Aman Vaya of Aakriti Foundation donated two life-saving rescue tubes, which will be permanently installed at Gangukund to facilitate immediate rescue operations in case of any water-related emergency.

The forum also conducted a scientific analysis of the water quality at Gangukund. According to the report, years of accumulated silt and organic matter are absorbing dissolved oxygen from the water, resulting in the seasonal death of fish, particularly during the summer months. The study also revealed elevated Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) levels. Experts noted that excessive feeding of fish and the disposal of oily food substances into the water are further contributing to pollution. They recommended immediate desilting of the kund and the implementation of effective water conservation measures.

The programme witnessed participation from several social organizations, including Green People's Society, Hind Seva Manav Kalyan Trust, Jan Seva Sansthan, Senior Citizen Care Charitable Trust, Gangukund Vikas Samiti, Bharat Vikas Parishad Uday, Bar Association, Golcha Seva Samiti Udaipur, Pension Samaj, and Amarchand Badwa Seva Samiti.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Satish Mewara, Pushkar Chouhan, Manish Golcha, Kishore Gehlot, B.L. Arya, Badrilal Bhardwaj, and Mohit Sharma, who expressed gratitude to all the guests, participating organizations, and volunteers for making the event a success.
