###Paras Health Udaipur Saves 16-Year-Old Stroke Patient with Advanced Mechanical Thrombectomy

Udaipur: In a remarkable medical achievement, Paras Health Udaipur successfully saved the life of a 16-year-old girl who suffered a rare and severe Large Vessel Occlusion (LVO) stroke using an advanced mechanical thrombectomy procedure.

The teenager was rushed to the hospital after suddenly developing weakness on one side of her body, facial drooping, and difficulty speaking—classic warning signs of a stroke. Diagnostic imaging confirmed that a blood clot had blocked one of the brain's major arteries, cutting off blood supply to a significant portion of the brain. Doctors identified the condition as Large Vessel Occlusion (LVO), one of the most serious forms of ischemic stroke that requires immediate intervention.

The life-saving emergency procedure was performed by Dr. Tarun Mathur, Consultant Neurologist and Neuro-Intervention Specialist, along with Dr. Manish Kulshreshtha, Consultant Neurologist, and a multidisciplinary stroke team. Using a minimally invasive mechanical thrombectomy, the team successfully removed the clot, restored blood flow to the brain, and prevented permanent neurological disability.

Commenting on the case, Dr. Tarun Mathur said that while stroke has traditionally been considered a disease of the elderly, it is increasingly being seen in children and teenagers. He urged parents, teachers, and the community not to ignore symptoms such as sudden facial drooping, limb weakness, speech difficulties, loss of balance, or vision changes.

“In stroke care, every minute counts. Early recognition, rapid transport to a stroke-ready hospital, and timely mechanical thrombectomy can dramatically improve recovery and prevent lifelong disability,” he said.

Dr. Manish Kulshreshtha noted that although pediatric and adolescent strokes are uncommon, delayed diagnosis can have devastating consequences. He emphasized that rapid brain imaging, early referral to a specialized stroke center, and prompt intervention are essential for achieving the best possible outcomes.

Mechanical thrombectomy is a minimally invasive procedure in which a catheter is inserted through a blood vessel to reach and remove the clot, restoring blood circulation to the brain. By quickly re-establishing blood flow, doctors were able to minimize brain damage and significantly improve the patient's chances of full recovery.

Reacting to the successful outcome, Anubhav Sukhwani, Facility Director of Paras Health Udaipur, said the case highlighted the importance of rapid clinical decision-making, specialized expertise, and coordinated teamwork.

“Treating stroke in such a young patient demands exceptional expertise and seamless collaboration. This case reflects the strength of our multidisciplinary stroke program and our commitment to delivering advanced, time-critical stroke care,” he said.

Following the procedure, the teenager made a remarkable recovery, and doctors expect her to return to normal life without significant neurological impairment.

Medical experts at Paras Health emphasized that this rare case underlines the growing importance of advanced stroke treatments such as mechanical thrombectomy and serves as a reminder that stroke can occur at any age, including in children and teenagers. Early recognition of warning signs and immediate access to expert stroke care remain the key to preventing permanent brain damage and ensuring the best possible recovery.
