Rajasthan truckers call off statewide strike after government accepts key demands

UDAIPUR, : The Rajasthan-wide strike by truck operators, launched on July 13 under the banner of the Pradesh Truck Transport Sangharsh Samiti, was called off after the state government accepted several of the transporters' key demands, representatives of the organization said.

The agitation was launched over issues including the implementation of the Vehicle Location Tracking Device (VLTD) GPS system, permit-related matters, fitness centres and relief from challans issued due to the closure of fitness centres.

In Udaipur division, the protest was coordinated by The Udaipur Transport Organization, which said the movement was conducted peacefully and in a disciplined manner.

Organization spokesperson Kunwar Hemendra Singh Dawana said the outcome was the result of the unity and collective efforts of truck owners, transport operators, drivers and their families across the state. He said the movement demonstrated that peaceful and democratic protests could lead to constructive dialogue with the government.

Organization president Narendra Singh Ranawat said a rally was taken out on July 15 from the organization's office to the Regional Transport Office (RTO), involving more than 50 heavy commercial vehicles and hundreds of four-wheelers. Despite the large turnout, traffic movement for the general public was not disrupted, he said.

Secretary Manohar Singh Rathore said a delegation submitted the transporters' demands to government officials during the rally. He said the government announced positive decisions on the major demands within six hours of the meeting and ordered their implementation, leading to the withdrawal of the strike.

The organization thanked Udaipur MP Mannalal Rawat for raising the transporters' concerns with the state and central governments and acknowledged the support of the Udaipur police for maintaining law and order during the protest.

It also expressed gratitude to print, electronic and digital media organizations for highlighting the issues faced by the transport sector.

Representatives of various transport associations, truck owners and drivers attended the concluding meeting, where participants congratulated one another after the strike was formally withdrawn.
