Muslim Community Submits Memorandum to Udaipur Collector Seeking Removal of Encroachments from Graveyards
Udaipur: A delegation of representatives from the Muslim community submitted a memorandum to the Udaipur District Collector, demanding the removal of alleged illegal encroachments from historical Waqf graveyards in the city. The delegation urged the district administration to conduct a fair investigation, carry out official demarcation of the graveyards, and take action to restore the encroached land.
According to the memorandum, the Maqbara Graveyard, Brahmpol Graveyard, and Patel Circle Graveyard have been facing persistent encroachment issues for several years. The delegation stated that a significant portion of these graveyards has allegedly been occupied over time, affecting their original identity and religious significance.
The memorandum highlighted that the situation at the Patel Circle Graveyard is particularly serious, claiming that there is currently no proper access road leading to the burial ground.
The community representatives requested the district administration to conduct demarcation of all graveyards based on revenue and Waqf records, carry out an impartial inquiry into the alleged encroachments, initiate legal action against those found responsible, and ensure that the encroached Waqf land is restored and permanently protected to prevent future encroachments.
Among those present while submitting the memorandum were Anjuman Secretary Mustafa Sheikh, Udaipur District Waqf Committee President Salim Sheikh, Khanjipeer President Kaleem Sahib, Shoaib Sindhi, Afsar Khan, Riyaz Khan, along with other prominent members and representatives of the Muslim community.
Copies of the memorandum were also submitted to the Superintendent of Police, Udaipur, the Chairman of the Rajasthan Waqf Board, Jaipur, the Chief Executive Officer of the Rajasthan Waqf Board, Jaipur, and the Commissioner of the Udaipur Municipal Corporation.
