'Jeevan Ki Dukaan' Play Highlights Cost of Blind Development
Udaipur, A street play highlighting the environmental cost of unchecked development and human greed marked the conclusion of a 15-day theatre workshop conducted at a government school in Devali by Natyansh Society of Dramatic and Performing Arts, Udaipur.
The presentation-oriented workshop trained students in the fundamentals of theatre under the guidance of theatre practitioners Rekha Sisodiya and Amit Shrimali. The programme concluded with a performance of "Jeevan Ki Dukaan," a play written by Amit Shrimali that focuses on environmental degradation caused by unchecked development and conveys the importance of protecting trees and preserving nature.
The play depicts how the pursuit of development and personal gain has led to the relentless exploitation of natural resources, while society often remains unaware of the environmental consequences and the risk of future natural disasters. Through the performance, the students encouraged the audience to adopt a more responsible approach toward environmental conservation.
Workshop coordinator and director Rekha Sisodiya said the performance marked the 50th staging of Jeevan Ki Dukaan by the theatre group. She added that all participating students performed on stage for the first time and displayed remarkable enthusiasm and confidence despite having no previous acting experience. Lavesh Prajapati assisted in conducting the workshop.
The cast included Babulal Meghwal, Leela Meghwal, Lalita Kumari, Nisha Kumawat, Sahil Jani, Tejpal Singh Kumawat, and Cheshta Jadon.
At the closing ceremony, school principal Dushyant Kumar Nagda honoured the organisers with certificates of appreciation and mementoes. Teachers Pushplata Solanki, Kalpana Shrimali, and Vimlesh Kumawat distributed participation certificates to the students.
Plot
Jeevan Ki Dukaan tells the story of a group of friends who plan to establish an oxygen manufacturing business by destroying forests and cutting down trees to create future demand for oxygen. Another friend persuades them to reconsider by explaining the vital role trees play in sustaining life and maintaining ecological balance. Realising the consequences of their actions, the group abandons its plan and instead pledges to protect and nurture the environment.
