Successful Organization of CME on Research Methodology at PIMS Udaipur

A one‑day workshop for PG residents and research scholars featured deliberations on sample size, data classification, and research ethics.

 Udaipur. The Department of Community Medicine, Pacific Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Udaipur, organized a one-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) program on “Basics in Research Methodology” on Saturday, 25th July. This workshop was conducted for PG residents and research scholars, with the objective of developing an understanding of scientific research methodology among young physicians.

The organizing chairperson of the program was Dr. Suresh Chandra Goyal (Principal & Controller, PIMS), while the role of organizing secretary was carried out by Dr. Dilip Kumar Pareek (Head, Department of Community Medicine). The CME coordinator was Dr. Vaibhav Chittora (Statistician & Assistant Professor). Dr. Yogesh Singhal and Dr. Avantika Gupta made valuable contributions to the CME by delivering lectures. The program also witnessed the esteemed presence of Dr. Prashant Nahar, President of Sai Tirupati University.The occasion was further dignified by the gracious presence of Dr. Sarita Kanth, Medical Superintendent.The wholehearted involvement of the faculty, staff and MSWs from the Department of Community Medicine, including Dr. Nitesh Mangal, Dr. Mehul Patel, Dr. Rajyalakshmi, Dr. Mansi Sharma, Dr. Abhishek Mukherjee, and Dr. Shivangi Yadav, was instrumental in the effective and successful conduct of the CME.

As keynote speakers, Dr. K.A. Varghese (Emeritus Professor, Statistics, with more than four decades of experience) and Dr. Ashish Jain (Associate Professor, Department of Community Medicine, R.N.T. Medical College, Udaipur) shared their extensive experience with the participants.

During the CME, detailed sessions were conducted on important topics such as identification of research problems, study design, literature review, data classification and structuring, sample size calculation, selection of appropriate statistical tests, research ethics and scientific writing. PG residents from first, second, and third year, along with research scholars of the institute, actively participated in the program.

The organizers stated that this workshop would prove extremely useful for young researchers and would assist them in carrying out quality research work. At the conclusion of the program, certificates were distributed to all participants.
