Meditation Unlocks Self-Realisation, Says Jain Nun

Udaipur: Jain nun Sadhvi Vidyutprabha Shriji on Sunday said Lord Mahavir's rigorous penance was undertaken not for personal liberation but to illuminate the path of self-realisation for all living beings. She added that just 48 minutes of deep meditation could lead an individual towards kevalya gyan (absolute knowledge).

Addressing devotees during the Chaturmas discourse series at Vasupujya Mandir Dadabari, Sadhvi Vidyutprabha Shriji said modern society seeks comfort and convenience, but spiritual purification can only be achieved through penance, sacrifice and self-discipline. She said Lord Mahavir embraced severe austerities to inspire humanity with patience, endurance and inner strength.

Drawing a comparison with present-day lifestyles, she said people often struggle to tolerate minor discomforts such as heat or mosquito bites, whereas Lord Mahavir endured years of hardship to purify the soul. Without accepting hardships and practising austerity, one cannot cleanse the impurities of the soul, she said.

The Jain nun also stressed the need for environmental conservation, saying excessive dependence on air conditioners, refrigerators and other modern conveniences has disturbed the ecological balance. She observed that Udaipur's climate was noticeably cooler two decades ago and urged people to use resources responsibly to protect the environment for future generations.

Using the example of an incense stick, she said it burns itself while spreading fragrance around, adding that human life should similarly inspire others through selfless service, compassion and positivity despite personal hardships.

During the programme, devotees Sanjay Dhakad and his wife from Ujjain were felicitated for their religious commitment. Sadhvi Vidyutprabha Shriji noted that Dhakad had made a religious contribution of ₹27 lakh a decade ago and appreciated his continued devotion.

The discourse began with devotional recitations by Sadhvi Pragyanjana Shriji, Sadhvi Namanruchi Shriji, Sadhvi Yogruchi Shriji and Sadhvi Tanmayruchi Shriji. Hundreds of devotees attended the gathering and resolved to follow Lord Mahavir's teachings of penance, self-discipline and environmental responsibility. Among those present were president Raj Lodha, Chaturmas convenor Gajendra Bhansali, secretary Dalpat Doshi, Subhash Mahatma, and several members of the Jain community.
