118 Agriculture Students Flagged Off for RAWE Program at MPUAT
UDAIPUR : A total of 118 fourth-year Bachelor of Science (Agriculture) students from Rajasthan College of Agriculture, Udaipur, were flagged off for the Rural Agricultural Work Experience (RAWE) program under the guidance of Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology (MPUAT) Vice-Chancellor Dr. Pratap Singh.
The students were dispatched to various Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) to gain practical exposure to indigenous agricultural knowledge and hands-on farming practices. The buses were flagged off by Dr. Lokesh Gupta, Dean and Faculty Chairman of Rajasthan College of Agriculture.
Addressing the students, Dr. Gupta emphasized the importance of discipline and encouraged them to actively engage with farming families during the 90-day training program. He said the students would have an opportunity to study integrated farming systems, traditional and modern crop cultivation practices, and livestock management techniques directly from farmers.
He also urged each student to plant at least five saplings on a farmer's field and create awareness among rural communities about agricultural development schemes launched by the central and state governments. Dr. Gupta added that sincere participation in the program could help students develop entrepreneurial skills and establish agriculture-based enterprises in the future. He noted that the students' progress would be monitored periodically throughout the training.
During the orientation, heads of various departments briefed the students on the objectives of the RAWE program and introduced them to the latest agricultural technologies.
Welcoming the participants, RAWE Program Coordinator and Head of the Department of Extension Education, Prof. Rajeev Bairathi, outlined the structure of the program. He said a committee would regularly monitor students' activities during the training.
According to Prof. Bairathi, this year's RAWE program includes 44 female and 74 male students, who have been assigned to Krishi Vigyan Kendras in Chittorgarh, Bhilwara and Rajsamand districts. The students will spend 90 days living and working with farming families to gain practical knowledge of modern agricultural practices.
Faculty members, including Dr. Pooja Sharma, Dr. R.N. Kumhar and Dr. Hari Singh Meena, accompanied the students to their respective KVKs. Department heads, senior faculty members and staff of the student affairs section were also present during the flag-off ceremony.
