Two-Day Training Programme on Millet Processing and Value Addition Concludes at College of Community and Applied Sciences

Udaipur: A two-day training programme on "Processing and Value Addition of Traditional Crops of Mewar", organized under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) project, concluded successfully at the Department of Food Science and Nutrition, College of Community and Applied Sciences, Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology (MPUAT), Udaipur.

The training programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from young learners and aspiring entrepreneurs. Participants received hands-on training in the preparation of a variety of millet (Shree Anna)-based value-added products, including chocolates, crackers, and sticks. They also gained practical knowledge about product formulation, quality standards, packaging techniques, and the commercial applications of millet-based foods.

Addressing the participants, Dr. Sarla Lakhawat, Dean of the College, highlighted the significance of Mewar's traditional crops, particularly millets (Shree Anna), in ensuring nutritional security, promoting better health, and contributing to the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India). She emphasized that practical training programmes of this nature foster entrepreneurship, innovation, and skill development while encouraging students to pursue both employment and self-employment opportunities.

Dr. Renu Mogra, Head of the Department, elaborated on the nutritional and health benefits of millets, emphasizing their role in improving dietary diversity, enhancing public health, and strengthening nutritional security through regular consumption.

Project Coordinator Dr. Kamla Mahajani provided detailed insights into the preparation of various value-added millet products. She highlighted the growing consumer demand for millet-based foods and discussed the vast opportunities they offer for entrepreneurship and self-employment.

Dr. Neha Shekhawat delivered a session on the marketing, branding, packaging, and commercialization of millet-based products. She explained that high-quality products, attractive packaging, and effective marketing strategies can help millet products gain recognition in both national and international markets.

During the practical sessions, Trainer Yogita Paliwal demonstrated the step-by-step preparation of various value-added millet products. She guided participants through each stage of the production process, emphasizing quality control measures, hygiene practices, and the precautions necessary to ensure consistent product quality.

At the conclusion of the programme, participants described the training as highly informative, practical, and enriching. They expressed appreciation for the initiative and hoped that similar skill development programmes would continue to be organized in the future to enhance entrepreneurial and employment opportunities.
