MP Manna Lal Rawat Seeks Rail Connectivity Boost for Udaipur, Mewar Region
NEW DELHI, Member of Parliament Manna Lal Rawat met Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday and submitted a series of proposals aimed at improving rail connectivity and infrastructure in Udaipur and the Mewar region of Rajasthan.
During the meeting at the minister's office in Parliament House, Rawat urged the Ministry of Railways to extend the Udaipur-Asarva Vande Bharat Express to Surat, Gujarat, saying the train remains stationed at Asarva for more than seven hours each day. Extending the service would benefit thousands of passengers and business travelers from the Mewar and Vagad regions who frequently travel to Surat, he said.
Rawat also sought improved rail connectivity between Mewar and southern India through additional train services and requested the doubling of the Chittorgarh-Debari rail section. He proposed new rail links connecting Udaipur with Falna, Sirohi Road and Pratapgarh via Dhariyawad.
The MP requested the redevelopment of approximately 200,000 square meters at Udaipur City Railway Station into a commercial shopping complex while also calling for the strengthening and widening of the railway underpass near Eklingpura. He said the existing Railway Bridge No. 204 (116/9) is too narrow, causing traffic congestion and hindering sewerage infrastructure works. He urged that the bridge be widened as part of the ongoing Udaipur-Umarda rail doubling project.
To improve long-distance connectivity, Rawat proposed extending the Udaipur-Yognagari Rishikesh Express (19609/19610) to Dehradun and increasing its frequency from three days a week to daily service.
He also requested that the Udaipur-Banda Terminus Express (22901/22902) be converted into a daily service and rerouted via Ahmedabad. In addition, he sought the permanent restoration of the Agra-Asarva Express (01919/01920), citing its strong passenger occupancy before it was discontinued.
Among other proposals, Rawat asked for the extension of the Ajmer-Kathgodam Ranikhet Express (15013/15014) to Udaipur and the extension of the Gujarat Mail (12901/12902) from Ahmedabad to Udaipur. He said the Gujarat Mail remains idle at Ahmedabad for nearly 17 hours each day before returning to Mumbai, making an extension operationally feasible.
Rawat also opposed a proposal by the Rail Land Development Authority to lease approximately 19,588 square meters of land at Udaipur City Railway Station for commercial and residential development on a 99-year lease. He argued that the land would be required in the future for additional railway tracks, yard maintenance facilities, washing lines and other operational infrastructure.
According to Rawat, Railway Minister Vaishnaw assured him that all the proposals would be examined and considered by the ministry.
