Udaipur's 21st Kanwar Yatra Scheduled for Aug. 17
UDAIPUR, India, Preparations have begun for the 21st Vishal Kanwar Yatra, which will be held on Aug. 17 with prayers for peace, prosperity and good rainfall across the country.
Organized by the Shiv Mahotsav Samiti, the annual pilgrimage has been held continuously since 2006. Devotees will carry holy water on foot over a distance of approximately 21 kilometers from Udaipur to the Ubhyeshwar Mahadev Temple.
The weeklong series of pre-event programs began Wednesday with the traditional offering of the first invitation to Bohra Ganesh Maharaj, marking the ceremonial start of the celebrations.
Committee President Yagya Narayan Sharma said the invitation was presented in keeping with tradition, followed by a Maha Aarti praying for the successful and peaceful conduct of the yatra. A poster for the seven-day celebrations was also unveiled during the event.
Convener Advocate Dr. Ramkripa Sharma said the Kanwar Yatra aims to encourage participation from all sections of society, including social, religious and political organizations, as well as the general public.
Several dignitaries, committee members and volunteers attended the inaugural function, including social worker Vardichand Chaudhary, Kamlendra Singh Panwar, Manohar Chaudhary, Jagd Nagda, Dinesh Gupta, former Bar Association President Manish Sharma, Ganesh Lal Teli, Lokesh Joshi, Mansingh Hada, Nitish Purohit, Mahesh Bhavsar, Suresh Rawat, Dr. Om Sahu, Purushottam Parasar, Anandi Lal Chitora, Shivshankar Nagda, Bhagirath Singh, Sudhir Dutt Vyas, Lochan Sharma, Gopal Krishna Rawal, Kishan Singh Lodha, Prem Singh Panwar, Gopal Paliwal and Dilip Tripathi. Participants prayed for peace, communal harmony and timely rainfall.
Committee spokesperson Krishnakant Kumawat said the second phase of the celebrations will begin Saturday with a two-day Akhand Ramayan Path at the Community Hall in the Gangodbhav Complex near the Fourth Pillar of the Ganga. The religious recitation is intended to promote spiritual awareness and strengthen social unity ahead of the Kanwar Yatra.
