Udaipur: Sai Tirupati University organized a special awareness lecture and valedictory ceremony at the Pacific Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Umarda, Udaipur, to mark the successful conclusion of the Organ Donation Awareness Campaign 2026 and observe Indian Organ Donation Day. The event was conducted in accordance with the "Angdaan Jeevan Sanjeevani Abhiyan" of the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO), Government of India, and the directives of the Directorate of Medical Education, Government of Rajasthan.
The ceremony was graced by Vice Chancellor Dr. Prashant Nahar as the Chief Guest. Distinguished guests included Registrar Dr. Devendra Jain and Principal & Controller Dr. Suresh Goyal. Addressing the gathering, they emphasized that organ donation is one of humanity's noblest acts of service, enabling a person to save and transform multiple lives even after death. They urged students, healthcare professionals, and the wider community to adopt a positive outlook toward organ donation and actively spread awareness.
The first keynote lecture was delivered by Dr. Pranav Kumar, Professor and Head, Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, and Nodal Officer for the Organ Donation Awareness Campaign. He presented a comprehensive overview of the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act (THOTA), 1994, explaining its legal provisions, ethical considerations, and the transparent, scientific process of organ donation. He also addressed common myths and misconceptions surrounding organ donation.
The second lecture was delivered by Dr. Amit Kumar, Professor, Department of Anaesthesiology, who spoke on the concept of Brain Stem Death. He highlighted that the accurate identification and understanding of brain stem death forms the foundation of deceased organ donation and plays a crucial role in saving the lives of patients suffering from end-stage organ failure.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from Dr. Sarita Kanth, Medical Superintendent; Dr. Kamlesh Shekhawat, Medical Director; Dr. Dileep Kumar Parik, Academic Director; principals of constituent colleges, faculty members, resident doctors, interns, undergraduate students, nursing staff, and other employees. During the interactive question-and-answer session, participants engaged with experts to clarify legal, medical, and social aspects related to organ donation.
During the valedictory ceremony, the achievements of the Organ Donation Awareness Campaign 2026, conducted throughout the month of July, were highlighted. These included public awareness rallies, oath-taking ceremonies, green illumination initiatives, guest lectures, and community outreach programmes. Heads of departments, faculty members, the organizing committee, the NSS unit, the Organ Donation Monitoring Unit, and student volunteers who contributed to the successful execution of the campaign were felicitated with mementoes and certificates of appreciation in recognition of their dedication and support.
The programme concluded with a vote of commitment by Dr. Shrinidhi, Professor, Department of Physiology, who reaffirmed the institution's resolve to continue promoting awareness about organ donation and inspiring more people to pledge for voluntary organ donation. The event ended with the powerful message:
"Organ Donation – The Greatest Gift of Life."
