Udaipur: Member of Parliament Dr. Mannalal Rawat met Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Virendra Kumar to highlight the difficulties faced by members of the Kalal community in obtaining Central OBC certificates. He requested the Centre to resolve the issue by including all recognized Kalal sub-groups in the Central OBC list.
Dr. Rawat said that, according to the Government of India Gazette Notification dated October 20, 1994, only Kalal (Tank) is included in the Central OBC list, preventing members of other Kalal sub-groups from obtaining Central OBC certificates and availing reservation benefits in Central Government jobs and educational institutions.
He pointed out that the Rajasthan Government’s notification dated June 24, 2002, recognizes all major Kalal sub-groups—including Kalal, Mewada, Suwalka, Jaiswal, Ahluwalia, and Patel—under the State OBC category. Dr. Rawat urged the Union Government to update the Central OBC list accordingly to ensure equal opportunities for all eligible members of the Kalal community.
