Floral Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on August Kranti Day and World Tribal Day
Udaipur, On the occasion of August Kranti Day and World Tribal Day, a tribute programme was organised on Sunday morning at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Gulab Bagh, Udaipur. Floral tributes were offered to Mahatma Gandhi, and homage was paid to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for India's freedom.
The programme began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Pankaj Kumar Sharma, General Secretary and Spokesperson of the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee and District Convenor of the Mahatma Gandhi Jeevan Darshan Samiti. He also offered a cotton garland to the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi.
Those present collectively sang Mahatma Gandhi's popular devotional songs, including “Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram” and “Vaishnav Jan To Tene Kahiye.”
A seminar was subsequently organised on the themes of the Quit India Movement and World Tribal Day. Addressing the gathering, Pankaj Kumar Sharma said that August 9 holds great significance in the history of India's freedom movement. On this day in 1942, Mahatma Gandhi launched the Quit India Movement against British rule and gave the nation the call of “Do or Die.” The movement gave a decisive direction to India's struggle for independence.
He said that World Tribal Day provides an opportunity to remember the glorious traditions, culture and struggles of tribal communities, as well as their significant contribution to nation-building. Tribal communities have played an important role in India's freedom movement and the struggle for social justice.
Sharma emphasised that Mahatma Gandhi's ideals of truth, non-violence, harmony, equality and social cohesion remain relevant even today. He called upon people to remember the sacrifices of freedom fighters and incorporate their ideals into their lives.
During the programme, elderly citizen Anwar Ali was honoured by presenting him with a Gandhi cap and a cotton garland. Those present also took a pledge to follow Mahatma Gandhi's ideals and principles.
Firoz Ahmed Sheikh, Abdul Aziz, Sandeep Garg, Omkar Solanki, Nilpesh Garasia, Simran, Rajni, Mahesh, Robin, Mohit and Nitesh Sarraf, among others, were present on the occasion.
Tribute Paid to Former Minister Late Khemraj Katara on His 20th Death Anniversary
Following the programme, a separate tribute meeting was organised at the Congress Media Centre, Rakshabandhan, Dhanmandi, to mark the 20th death anniversary of former Rajasthan minister Late Khemraj Katara.
Congress leaders and workers offered floral tributes to his portrait and remembered his personality, public service and contribution to society.
Speakers recalled that Late Khemraj Katara worked for the welfare of various sections of society throughout his public life and always gave priority to public service. His contribution and commitment to serving people, they said, would always be remembered.
The programme concluded with the participants taking a pledge to carry forward the ideals and spirit of public service associated with Late Khemraj Katara.
