Congress demands national memorial status for Mangarh Dham
UDAIPUR, The Udaipur Rural and City District Congress Committees on Saturday organized a joint program on World Tribal Day and August Kranti Day and demanded that Mangarh Dham be declared a national memorial.
Addressing the gathering, Udaipur Rural District Congress president Raghuveer Singh Meena alleged that the Rajasthan government lacked the intention to pursue national memorial status for Mangarh Dham. He said the site, where more than 1,500 tribal freedom fighters were killed by British forces in 1913, is a shared heritage of tribal communities in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
Meena said Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a visit to Banswara in 2022, had asked the four states to send a proposal for developing Mangarh Dham and declaring it a national memorial, but no concrete step had been taken so far.
Program convener and former Lok Sabha candidate Tarachand Meena said the Congress would continue its struggle for national memorial status for Mangarh Dham. Referring to a written reply in Parliament to questions raised by Nagaur MP Hanuman Beniwal and Udaipur MP Dr. Manna Lal Rawat, he said Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat had stated that the central government currently had no proposal to declare Mangarh Dham a national memorial and had not received any proposal from the concerned states.
Tarachand Meena said the reply had caused disappointment and anger among tribal communities and accused the BJP of misleading tribal society.
Udaipur City District Congress president Fateh Singh Rathore also paid tribute to the tribal martyrs of Mangarh Dham and demanded that both the state and central governments grant it national memorial status.
The Congress leaders later submitted a memorandum addressed to the President of India through the district administration, seeking early declaration of Mangarh Dham as a national memorial.
The program was attended by Hira Lal Darangi, Lal Singh Jhala, Dr. Mangi Lal Garasia, Trilok Purbiya, Jagdish Raj Shrimali, Pankaj Sharma, Dariyav Singh Chundawat, Laxmi Narayan Pandya, Dr. Man Singh Ninama, Sunil Bhajat, Bansi Lal Meena, Arjun Menaria, Dr. Kalyan Singh Rao, Ajay Singh, Ram Singh Chadana, Raisa Ram Kher, Roop Lal Meena, Dr. Kaushal Nagda, Dr. Sanjeev Rajpurohit, Tirath Singh Kherlia, Kamlesh Patel, Mohabbat Singh Rathore, Moti Lal Suthar, Om Prakash Gameti, Ratan Lal Purbiya, Gopal Sarpata, Dinesh Audichya, Gajendra Kothari, Mahesh Tripathi, Laxmi Lal Soni, Mohan Lal Meena, Roshan Gaur, Suresh Solanki, Sandeep Meena and Shiv Shankar Menaria, along with several Congress office-bearers and workers.
