Udaipur: The second evening of the ‘Malhar’ Festival at Shilpgram’s Darpan Auditorium offered a captivating blend of classical music and dance. Organised by the West Zone Cultural Centre, Udaipur, the programme opened with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Centre Director Dr. Ashwin M. Dalvi.
Sitarist Vinayak Chittar began the evening with Raga Gaud Malhar, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of the monsoon. His expressive alap, followed by jod and jhala, beautifully captured the mood of rain, while his vilambit and madhya-laya compositions highlighted the depth and playful character of the raga. Pt. Parthasarathi Mukherjee provided engaging tabla accompaniment, creating a memorable musical dialogue.
The evening then moved into the world of Mohiniyattam, with dancer Pallavi Krishnan presenting a series of evocative compositions. Through ‘Shri Ramachandra Kripalu Bhajman’, she portrayed the valour, dignity and compassion of Lord Rama. ‘Chintavishtayaya Sita’ poignantly depicted Sita’s anguish and inner strength, while ‘Maya Mohan Krishna’ brought alive episodes involving Draupadi, Gajendra and Arjuna.
The programme concluded with ‘Shiva Panchakshara Stotram’, filling the auditorium with devotional energy.
The event was conducted by cultural practitioner Deepak Panwar and attended by several artists, officials and cultural enthusiasts.
