 ### Kangana Ranaut Extended a Helping Hand Amid Threats,

Several films in Bollywood have portrayed the truth, whether it’s related to an individual or a violent incident in some corner of the country. However, few filmmakers dare to bring such realities to the screen. One such filmmaker is Sanoj Mishra, the director of "The Diary of West Bengal," who shared insights about his film in an exclusive interview.

**New Delhi:** The colorful world of cinema produces a wide range of films. While comedy genres are popular, dramas have their unique appeal. Amidst these, some films reveal truths that millions remain unaware of. Sanoj Mishra, a veteran filmmaker in the industry, has dared to portray one such truth in his film "The Diary of West Bengal."

Having directed films like "Gandhigiri" and "Srinagar," Sanoj Mishra has now brought the story of Bengal to the big screen. "The Diary of West Bengal" showcases a Bengal where love exists, but so does violence. The director, in an exclusive conversation with Jagran.com, discussed the challenges of making the film, including the support he received from Kangana Ranaut.

**Filming in the Jungle**

"The Diary of West Bengal" was shot at various locations in Kolkata. Director Sanoj Mishra revealed that shooting the film was not as easy as it seemed. Given the serious nature of the film, some scenes were shot in the jungle. Before the film’s release, Mishra received threatening calls. There were demands to ban the film, as it portrayed the challenges faced by the locals due to the presence of Rohingya Muslims and Bangladeshis in the region.

**Kangana Stood Alone from Bollywood**

Sanoj Mishra shared that when controversy arose around his film, the only person from Bollywood to support him was Kangana Ranaut. A few days before the release, Mishra had to go to Kolkata at the request of the police. Given the escalating tension and concerns about his safety, he quickly left the city, going off the grid for a while, which worried those trying to reach him.

The director mentioned that Kangana Ranaut, now an actress and a Member of Parliament, extended her support both on social media and off-camera when she learned about his disappearance and the threats he was facing. Mishra also praised Kangana as a bold actress, acknowledging that while some people may not appreciate her outspoken nature, she is a woman who confronts issues head-on, regardless of her personal matters.

**Positive Response Eases Concerns**

"The Diary of West Bengal" was released in theaters on August 30, 2024. Sanoj Mishra mentioned that the film initially released on limited screens (600), with permission to screen only in Mumbai, Delhi, and parts of the South. However, the number of screens has now increased from 600 to 1,000, thanks to the positive response the film has received, alleviating his earlier concerns.
