Udaipur, The National Sustainability Conference 2025, organized by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), was inaugurated on Saturday in Udaipur with great enthusiasm. Themed “Fostering Sustainability: Towards an Empowered Future”, the two-day event aims to promote responsible and sustainable thinking within business organizations, moving beyond policy to embed sustainability into corporate culture.
Dr. Premchand Bairwa, Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan, graced the event as the Chief Guest, while Professor (Dr.) Gaurav Vallabh, Member of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council, attended as the Guest of Honour. The conference saw participation from around 300 delegates in person and over 2,000 online attendees from across the country.
Sustainability a Priority for Rajasthan: Dr. Bairwa
In his address, Dr. Bairwa highlighted the Rajasthan government’s efforts towards sustainable development and commended ICSI for its crucial role in aligning corporate entities with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He stated that company secretaries are not only strengthening corporate governance with ethical business practices but are also promoting a balanced and responsible approach that upholds environmental, social, and governance (ESG) values. “Their contribution goes beyond business—they are reinforcing faith in India’s bright and responsible future,” he said.
Sustainability is Dharma for India: Prof. Gaurav Vallabh
Prof. Vallabh emphasized that sustainability is an imperative for India, not a choice. Referring to “Dharma” as the core of ICSI’s values, he stated that company secretaries are becoming catalysts for ESG transformation in the country.
He praised them for strengthening business ethics and transparency, while also aligning corporate actions with India’s developmental priorities. He emphasized the need for inclusive and adaptive sustainability practices, especially in a diverse country like India, and invoked the philosophy of Antyodaya—upliftment of the last person.
