Banswara. As the School Education Department of the Rajasthan Government begins addressing long-pending promotions—stalled for over five years—fresh controversies continue to emerge.

The Rajasthan Teachers' Union (Siyarām) has submitted a memorandum demanding equal seniority for teachers of Level-2 and Senior Teacher cadre who were recruited through the same advertisement and appeared for the exam on the same day.

It is noteworthy that the delay in results was caused by the RPSC, while inefficiency of education officials in handling document verification has further impacted senior teachers—making them pay the price for administrative lapses.

"Punishment of the King, Suffered by the Poor"

Arun Vyas, Co-Secretary of the State Academic Cell of the Siyarām organization, said that the RPSC delayed the results, and the inefficiency of education officials in the name of document verification led to repeated file movements. As a result, senior teachers have suffered injustice—"Punishment of the king is being borne by the poor."

Recently, the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meeting for promotion from Vice Principal to Principal has triggered a storm over the provisional seniority list.

One Notification, One Exam Date, Yet Different Appointments—The Root of the Problem

Due to different appointment dates for candidates selected under the same RPSC notification, discrepancies have arisen. Though candidates took the exam on the same date, separate result announcements led to different joining dates, which later became the basis for seniority.

The department’s move to file caveats in court has even prevented stay orders, and objections filed against the provisional seniority list have created further complications. Efforts to maintain transparency have ironically raised concerns about injustice to faculties like Arts, Commerce, and Agriculture.

Promotions at Night, Cancellations by Morning

In a recent incident, the long-awaited promotion list for Commerce faculty lecturers was issued at night but revoked the next morning. Teachers who received promotions to lecturer posts after nearly two decades were deeply hurt. Their joy turned to disappointment as the promotion orders were withdrawn within hours, rubbing salt in their wounds.

Sweet Celebrations Soured Overnight

In Banswara, a senior union leader celebrated his promotion to lecturer in commerce with sweets and congratulations from family and colleagues. However, the very next day, the cancellation of the order led to anger and resentment toward the state government.

Science Faculty Races Ahead, Commerce and Arts Left Behind

A practical observation reveals that those appointed in the science stream have quickly advanced to principal posts, while those from commerce and arts continue to lag. Some candidates even shifted from science appointments to post-graduate qualifications in arts subjects like English, Hindi, and Geography, securing lecturer posts and overtaking others in the principal race.

“Mentors Left with Jaggery, Disciples Became Sugar”

A telling example of this flawed system is that disciples who were once taught by commerce faculty teachers—appointed in science and promoted repeatedly—are now heading schools as principals, issuing orders to their former mentors. It truly seems, “Guruji were left with jaggery, while disciples became refined sugar.”
