Old Pension Scheme: Sole Sustenance for Livelihood," says Siyaram Sharma

Banswara. Siyaram Sharma, the Rajasthan Teachers' Union leader, has written letters to both the state and central governments, urging them to clarify the strategy regarding the old pension scheme (OPS). He highlights the disparity between elected representatives at both levels receiving pensions for more than one day's service, while state employees, after more than 33 years of service with monthly salary deductions, receive a consolidated pension.

Siyaram Sharma, the organizational administrative chief in the state, asserts that pension is the only means of sustenance for retired employees and teachers and should be steadfastly maintained. The organization stands opposed to any changes in the OPS through democratic means.

Speaking at the preparatory meeting for the upcoming regional convention, Siyaram Sharma addressed the High Power Committee of teachers present at the State Office in Jaipur.

Sharma welcomed immediate questions on education department-related issues from legislators and emphasized that the old pension scheme is the only reliable source for livelihood support. He stressed that the teachers and employees would resist any alterations to the OPS. He pointed out that the promises made in the double-engine government's declaration, including the recruitment of one lakh vacant positions, stalled promotions for four years, budget allocation for diseases in government schools, reservation in promotions for differently-abled employees, and a monthly allowance of Rs 3600 for central-like vehicles for differently-abled personnel, are yet to be fulfilled.

He expressed anticipation for the creation of new positions in line with the ratio of teacher to student and provision of resources for all classes from the first to the twelfth in government schools, among other expectations.

Following the meeting, a representative delegation of senior activists handed over an invitation letter for the regional convention in Kota to Chief Minister and Education Minister Madan Dilawar. They also submitted a letter addressing the issues faced by teachers.
