In insightful guest lecture on the subject of climate change was organized under the Postgraduate Council of the Department of Botany at Government Meera Girls’ College, Udaipur, on Saturday, 30th August 2025.
Presiding over the program, Principal Prof. Deepak Maheshwari emphasized that climate change is a burning issue. He stated that while natural causes play a role, human activities have significantly contributed to the crisis, and the responsibility to seek remedies must be shouldered by the younger generation.
The keynote speaker, Dr. Deeksha Dave, Associate Professor, Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi, explained various processes related to climate change. She elaborated on concepts such as carbon footprint, carbon sequestration, carbon credits, carbon trading, carbon offsetting, and carbon neutrality. Dr. Dave stressed that tackling climate change requires collective efforts at the global level.
The guest was welcomed by Prof. Savita Chahar, Head of the Botany Department. Co-convener of the Postgraduate Council, Dr. Vartika Jain, presented an overview of the year-long activities and highlighted the council’s objectives. The keynote speaker was introduced by Prof. Geeta Swami.
The program was conducted by postgraduate students Nikita Kumawat, Khushbu Kanwar, and Geetika Sharma from the 2nd and 4th semesters. A formal vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Jitendra Singh Rathore. Faculty members including Dr. Amish Dev Singh, other college staff, and a large number of students were also present.
