Preventing Suicide: A Call for Compassion and Responsibility

Life is precious, yet in today’s world, its value is increasingly diminished by stress, isolation, and misplaced ambitions. The rising cases of student suicides remind us of the heavy burdens placed upon young shoulders—burdens not of their own making but of parental expectations, institutional pressures, and societal competition.

When a child is forced to carry the weight of unfulfilled parental dreams, life becomes a mechanical routine rather than a joyful pursuit. Students, treated as machines instead of human beings, struggle silently under the suffocating atmosphere of rigid coaching centers. These institutions, often profit-driven, neglect the mental and emotional well-being of children, pushing them towards despair.

Parents must remember that children are not vessels to fulfill their ambitions. Instead, they must be nurtured like saplings in a nursery—given care, patience, and the space to grow naturally. True success comes when children are allowed to define their own goals, encouraged with guidance, and supported with love.

Equally important is the role of institutions and administration. Academic programs must be designed keeping in mind individual capacity, not as uniform burdens. Administrations should provide timely intervention, mental health counseling, and protection from antisocial influences. Psychiatric help should not remain theoretical—it must be practical, accessible, and without adding further pressure on the student.

Above all, students need to be reminded that setbacks are not failures, and that resilience, courage, and self-belief can transform obstacles into stepping stones. With strong willpower, even the hardest stone can float on water.

Suicide is never the answer. Life, though challenging, holds infinite possibilities. As Dr. Geeta Saxena rightly reminds: “See dreams with open eyes, embrace life’s happiness, and face adversities with courage. Human life is rare and precious—nourish it with positivity, determination, and compassion.”
