Udaipur — Udaipur’s young and talented writer Shakuntala Paliwal earned wide appreciation at the Indian Art Festival being held at Rashtrapati Nilayam, Hyderabad, Telangana. On 29 November, she presented her Rajsthani (Mewadi/Maayad) story “Anchhai” in the second session titled “Multilingual Story Reading.”

Her story “Anchhai” centers on a little girl born into a society where being the third daughter often results in names like Anchhai, Dhapu, Ramghani, or Baskaro—names that imply her birth is some kind of burden or mistake. The story highlights how the fault never lies with the child, but with the mindset that fails to understand the worth and dignity of daughters.
In the same session, senior Gujarati writer Dr. Girima Gharekhan presented her Gujarati story “Nange Pair”, while Ms. Jofa Gonzalvis from Goa read her Konkani story “Chook.”
At the conclusion, Dr. Girima, who presided over the session, offered an insightful analysis of all the stories presented. Literature enthusiasts attending the event praised the depth, sensitivity, and stylistic strength of the readings.
The programme was organized under the joint auspices of the Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi.
