Dr. Manju Jain: The Solar Cooking Advocate

When someone suggests cooking without gas, induction, or traditional stoves, many thoughts may come to mind about how it's possible to prepare food without wood or fuel expenses. However, Udaipur's Dr. Manju Jain has the solution. Resident of Arvind Nagar, Sundarvas, this 70-year-old doctor has been cooking in a solar cooker for the past 42 years, creating a wide array of dishes, each more delicious than the last.

Affectionately known as the 'Solar Woman', Dr. Jain has been recognized with the prestigious Platinum Shakti Award for her remarkable endeavor. Originally trained as a homeopathic doctor, she had to leave her practice to care for her ailing family members. However, she seamlessly transitioned into managing household responsibilities, finding tremendous assistance from her solar cooker.

While tending to the physical well-being of her family, Dr. Jain found that the solar cooker played a significant role in providing nourishing meals efficiently. Over the past 42 years, she has continuously promoted the use of solar cookers, spreading awareness about their benefits and environmental conservation.

Having provided live training sessions in solar cooking to over 1000 women and young girls, Dr. Manju Jain has taught various recipes, ranging from lentil soup, curry, idli-sambar, rice, to snacks like samosas, cakes, and cookies. She has actively participated in offline and online awareness programs conducted by various schools, colleges, and organizations, alongside radio talks organized by All India Radio.

Dr. Manju Jain's initiative not only reduces energy consumption but also contributes to a cleaner and greener environment. Her inspirational efforts empower women and youth to adopt eco-friendly practices while enjoying delicious meals cooked with the power of the sun.
