Udaipur | The Khelo India University Games commenced with great enthusiasm in Lake City on Tuesday, marking the beginning of various competitive events aimed at nurturing sporting talent among college students. This year, Udaipur has been selected to host exciting disciplines including Judo, Kayaking, and Beach Volleyball. The inaugural ceremony was held at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Indoor Stadium, where dignitaries, sports officials, coaches, and athletes from different universities participated in large numbers.
The ceremony began with the introduction of players. Udaipur Rural MLA Phool Singh Meena and Sukhadia University Vice-Chancellor Prof. B.P. Saraswat welcomed the athletes and extended their best wishes for the competitions. The event was attended by Zila Parishad CEO Riya Dabi, UDA Commissioner Rahul Jain, social worker Gajpal Singh, Sports Authority of India Director Amit Singh, along with officials and players from participating universities.
Addressing the gathering, Udaipur City MLA Tarachand Jain said that the government has taken impactful initiatives to promote sports and athletes across the country. He emphasized that sports are as essential as academics, encouraging athletes to perform with full potential and bring pride to the nation. Udaipur Rural MLA Phool Singh Meena highlighted the glorious heritage of Mewar, calling it a land that has always nurtured bravery and excellence, and motivated the participants to strive for outstanding performance.
Prof. B.P. Saraswat, Vice-Chancellor of Sukhadia University, stressed the importance of events like Khelo India, stating that such competitions provide a national platform for emerging youth talent and contribute significantly to personality development and nation-building.
District Sports Officer Dr. Mahesh Paliwal informed that on Tuesday, the 60kg and 66kg men’s Judo competitions were held.

Silver: Ganga Thapa (Sukhadia University, Udaipur) – the first medal for SU University
Bronze: Sania NB (CUK University) & Shruti K (SS University)
Women’s 52 kg category
Gold: Mahak Singh (Punjab University)
Silver: Anumol (CUK University)
Bronze: Manvi (CCS University) & Sandhya Tiwari (GNDU)
During the medal presentation ceremony, SAI Director Amit Singh, Rajasthan Judo Association Secretary Mahipal Grewal, Additional Commissioner Devsthan Department Gitesh Shri Malviya, and Sukhadia University Sports Board Secretary Dr. Bhimraj Patel honored the medal winners.
