Women Inspired Towards Entrepreneurship Through Value-Added Millet Products

Udaipur, – A two-day skill development training program on “Millet Processing: Journey from Raw Grains to Value-Added Products” was successfully organized at Badgaon, Udaipur under the project "Center of Excellence for Processing of Traditional Crops of Mewar Region", run by the College of Community and Applied Sciences, Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology, Udaipur, under the National Agriculture Development Scheme (RKVY).

The training aimed to introduce participants to millet-based entrepreneurial opportunities and inspire them towards self-employment. The program commenced with an insightful lecture by Dr. Kamla Mahajani, Principal Investigator of the project, who highlighted the nutritional and agricultural importance of millets. She emphasized that millets are not only highly nutritious but are also climate-resilient, requiring minimal water and input costs, making them ideal crops in today’s changing climatic conditions.

She elaborated on the different types of millets, their health benefits, and their potential in daily diets. Dr. Mahajani encouraged the women participants to explore the market by producing and selling millet-based products, thereby establishing their own startups.

Following this, Ms. Yogita Paliwal conducted a hands-on session on the preparation of value-added millet products such as ragi chocolates, samwa sticks, rajgira chakli, shakkarpare, and Nutraflour. Participants actively engaged in the session, gaining practical experience on how to convert millets into marketable products at the household level.

Dr. Seema provided guidance on product packaging, emphasizing the importance of attractive and hygienic presentation for market success. A total of 20 participants from villages of Girwa and Badgaon Panchayat Samitis attended the training.

At the conclusion of the program, Mr. Sameer delivered the vote of thanks. Women participants like Smt. Damyanti Goswami and Smt. Ganga shared that the training not only enhanced their skills but also opened new doors towards millet-based micro-enterprise opportunities, empowering them with a fresh entrepreneurial outlook.
