UDAIPUR, India  Mewar is set for a major rail connectivity boost with the Vande Bharat Express operating between Udaipur and Asarva now approved for extension to Surat.

The Railway Ministry has issued orders approving the extension. The train will operate from Udaipur to Surat six days a week, except Tuesday, providing a faster and more convenient travel option for passengers heading to Gujarat.

The extension is expected to particularly benefit people from Udaipur and the wider Mewar region who travel frequently to Surat for business, employment and other purposes.

MP Thanks Railway Minister

Udaipur MP Dr. Mannalal Rawat welcomed the decision and thanked Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for approving the long-standing demand of Mewar residents.

Rawat said direct Vande Bharat connectivity between Udaipur and Surat would provide significant benefits in terms of travel, business and employment. He said he had met Vaishnaw and raised the region's railway requirements and the difficulties faced by passengers travelling to Surat.

Easier Access to Southern India

A large number of people from Udaipur and surrounding areas travel to Surat for employment and business, while many also have onward travel requirements to cities in southern India.

At present, passengers often rely on buses or other modes of transport to reach Surat before continuing their journey by train. The lack of convenient connections and mismatched schedules has added to travel difficulties.

With the Vande Bharat extending directly to Surat, passengers are expected to benefit from a faster and more convenient journey. The service will also improve access to onward rail connections from Surat to several destinations in southern India.

Boost to Business and Employment

The extension is being viewed as an important step toward strengthening Udaipur's rail links with Gujarat and beyond. Besides improving passenger convenience, the direct service is expected to support business activity, employment-related travel and stronger economic links between Mewar and Surat.
