Udaipur: Poetry, music and the colours of the monsoon came together at the Sawan-Bhadon Milan Samaroh organised by Shayrana Parivar, Udaipur, at the Aishwarya College campus. Based on the themes of patriotism, Sawan-Bhadon and Raksha Bandhan, the gathering brought together poets, writers, singers and artists from different parts of Rajasthan.

Former Superintendent of Police Yadram Adhikari was the chief guest, while Dr Shaukat Parveen, a former Foreign Service officer, presided over the programme. Nursing officer Chandrakanta Talesara was the guest of honour.

The event reflected Shayrana Parivar’s continuing efforts to promote literature and music through open and free platforms. Chief adviser Dr Hukam Raj Joshi said the group has been organising free literary and musical programmes for nearly 16 years, providing emerging artists an opportunity to showcase their talent before a wider audience.

Programme in-charge Abha Sirsikar said artists from several districts participated in the gathering and presented poetry, couplets, traditional verse, murkiyan, folk songs and popular film melodies. The diverse performances gave the evening a colourful blend of literary expression and music.

Poetry and music add colour to the gathering

The programme featured a wide range of performances centred on patriotism, the monsoon season and the emotional bond celebrated during Raksha Bandhan.

Dr Rajkumar Rao won appreciation with his poetic presentation, while Kamlesh Kumawat from Rajsamand and Neha Taldar also presented their works. Lakshmi Aswani presented a Raksha Bandhan-themed song celebrating the bond between brothers and sisters.

Chittorgarh-based poet Gulzar presented a composition on loyalty and relationships. Hema Joshi, H. Kazi, Narayan Lal Lohar, Chhagan Khatri and Juhi Wadhwani added to the literary flavour with their respective presentations.

The gathering also featured performances by Ratan Tank, a teacher from Fatehnagar, yoga practitioner Jignesh Sharma and Ashok Parnami. Abha Sirsikar’s monsoon-themed song added a distinct Sawan flavour to the programme.

Ajit Singh Khinchi, Dr Rajkumar Rao, Ashok Pariyani, Dinesh Boriwal and All India Radio RJ Shamil Sheikh also received appreciation for their literary and musical presentations. Several other participants presented patriotic songs, poems, couplets, traditional verse and folk compositions, keeping the audience engaged throughout the event.

Focus on nurturing emerging talent

The founder, media adviser and lyricist of Shayrana Parivar said the organisation aims not only to provide artists with a platform but also to help them progress towards larger opportunities. Selected artists are given opportunities to perform at upcoming state-level programmes, while experienced artists guide them in refining their skills.

Information about an upcoming music workshop was also shared during the gathering. The workshop will focus on the finer aspects of singing and music under the guidance of subject experts.

All participating members were welcomed and felicitated with traditional uparna and turbans. The evening concluded on a vibrant note, with poetry, ghazals, folk traditions and music creating a memorable celebration of Rajasthan’s literary and cultural spirit.
