Udaipur, A workshop on Kaushiki dance was organised jointly by the Renaissance Universal Club, Udaipur, and the Society for Microvita Research and Integrated Medicine (SMRIM) at Jagriti Parisar on Tekri-Madri Road on Saturday, September 5, 2026.
SMRIM President Dr. S.K. Verma said Kaushiki dance was created by Shri Shri Anandamurti, founder of the Ananda Marga Pracharaka Sangha, on September 6, 1978, following a request from women practitioners. The day is observed by followers as Kaushiki Day.
Through a PowerPoint presentation, Dr. Verma explained the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of Kaushiki dance. He described it as a psycho-spiritual exercise, particularly significant for women, and said regular practice is believed to support overall physical and mental well-being.
According to Dr. Verma, Kaushiki involves a combination of rhythmic movements, expressions and postures. He said its regular practice may be beneficial in managing several physical and psychological concerns, including arthritis, liver-related disorders, depression and menstrual problems. He also highlighted its potential role in supporting the balance of the endocrine system and overall well-being.
Dr. Verma said the dance is based on specific emotions and gestures and can be practised by both women and men. He also explained its spiritual significance, particularly its role in connecting the individual mind with the cosmic mind.
Around 20 women from nearby areas participated in the workshop and learned the basic movements and techniques of Kaushiki dance. A Kaushiki dance competition was also organised, in which participants including Sarita Dev, Anju Rathore, Usha, Hemlata and Sudha Verma took part.
The programme was conducted by Dr. Vartika Jain, Secretary of SMRIM. The event concluded with a community refreshment session.
