Udaipur, A rare white-coloured cobra was safely rescued from a house in Hiran Magri Sector 11 after residents reported the presence of a snake inside the premises.

Acting on the information, Dr. Chaman Singh Chouhan, Divisional President of the Wild Animal Rescue Centre, reached the spot. He found a young cobra hiding underneath a cupboard in one of the rooms. When the cupboard was carefully moved, a white-coloured snake was spotted underneath and was safely rescued.

Dr. Chouhan said cobras are generally seen in black or dark shades, but occasionally, snakes with unusual white coloration are found. He explained that such colour variations can be associated with genetic factors and a lack of melanin pigment, which normally gives natural colour to the skin, hair and scales.

He clarified that the rescued snake was not a complete albino. Its eyes were black, whereas a fully albino snake generally has reddish or brownish eyes. Such unusually coloured snakes are considered extremely rare.

According to Dr. Chouhan, the unusual colouration can make these snakes more visible to predatory birds in the wild, potentially making survival more difficult. He also urged residents not to attempt to catch or kill snakes or other wild animals on their own.

“If you spot any wild animal in or around your home, immediately inform the Forest Department or a trained rescue team,” he said.
