Udaipur: The campaign launched by Mewar Bachao Manch to ensure clean, safe and accessible public toilets for women and citizens across Udaipur is beginning to yield significant results, with authorities taking prompt action on several issues highlighted by the organisation. Following sustained efforts and regular follow-ups with various government departments, corrective measures have been initiated at several key locations across the city. A delegation led by Mewar Bachao Manch founder Abhishek Pandey met officials of different departments and raised concerns related to the condition and availability of public toilets. The delegation included Nidhi Gupta, Shikha Doshi, Vinti Doshi and Neeraj Sanadhya. The Manch had highlighted several issues, including the absence of a separate women’s toilet at the registration office located at Pratap Gaurav Kendra, leakage at the public toilet in Gulab Bagh, sanitation concerns at Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) facilities and the poor condition of toilets at various tourist destinations. Separate Women’s Toilet at Pratap Gaurav Kendra Pandey said that following the intervention by the Manch, a separate women’s toilet facility has now been made available at the registration office at Pratap Gaurav Kendra. The Manch had earlier objected to the common toilet arrangement and demanded a separate and secure facility for women. According to the organisation, administrative officer Pradeep Yadav took the matter seriously and acted promptly. The Manch welcomed the decision as an important step towards ensuring dignity, privacy and safety for women and thanked the administration for the response. Gulab Bagh Leakage Problem Resolved The leakage problem at the public toilet in Gulab Bagh has also been addressed. The Udaipur Municipal Corporation acted promptly to repair the leakage. A delegation of the Manch also held discussions with Municipal Corporation Deputy Commissioner Harish Singh Deval and Health Officer Satyanarayan Sharma regarding the overall cleanliness and maintenance of public toilets. Officials have also initiated steps to strengthen regular monitoring of public toilet facilities across the city. Volunteers to Help Track Monitoring of 68 Public Toilets A significant development has been the initiative at the level of Health Officer Satyanarayan Sharma to constitute a volunteering committee. Under the proposed mechanism, volunteers from Mewar Bachao Manch will be able to assist in tracking the three-times-a-day monitoring of 68 Sulabh public toilets across the city. The Manch believes that stronger monitoring will enable authorities to respond more quickly to issues related to cleanliness, water availability, leakage and other basic facilities. The organisation has expressed hope that the initiative will produce positive results and contribute to sustained improvement in the city's public sanitation infrastructure. RSRTC Toilets Also Under Follow-Up The Manch has also taken up issues concerning toilets at the RSRTC bus stand with transport officials. RSRTC Chief Manager Hemant Kumar Sharma assured the delegation that steps would be taken to address the problems. A follow-up meeting has been proposed for October 6, when the condition and standards of the facilities are expected to be reviewed further. Focus on Citizen-Administration Partnership Mewar Bachao Manch said the objective of its campaign is not merely to put pressure on government departments but to establish an effective dialogue between citizens and the administration for improving public facilities. Through the campaign, the organisation is documenting the actual condition of public toilets and bringing specific problems to the attention of the concerned departments. Founder Abhishek Pandey said that sustained improvement in public facilities is possible when citizen groups, government agencies and the general public work together and maintain continuous monitoring. The Manch believes that clean and safe public toilets are not merely a sanitation issue but an essential component of public dignity, women's safety and a citizen-friendly city.
