Udaipur: An inter-school Sanskrit Shloka Recitation Competition was organised at Maharana Mewar Public School, City Palace, Udaipur, as part of Sanskrit Week. The event was jointly organised by Sanskrit Bharati, Udaipur, and Maharana Mewar Public School to promote interest in Sanskrit and create awareness about India’s rich cultural, literary and knowledge traditions.

Divisional Sanskrit Education Officer, Udaipur, Dr. Bhagwati Shankar Vyas, and Principal of Maharana Mewar Public School Dr. Rakhi Trivedi attended the event as special guests. Sanskrit Bharati state contact head Dr. Yagya Ameta, department coordinator Dushyant Nagda and general secretary Narendra Sharma, along with school officials and other dignitaries, were also present.

The programme began with Vedic chanting, worship of Goddess Saraswati and the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp. Students presented Saraswati Vandana, while Head of the Sanskrit Department Hemant Kumar Jain welcomed the guests with traditional honours.

The competition was conducted in junior and senior categories, attracting around 110 students from 30 schools across Udaipur. Participants recited selected shlokas from the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita and other ancient Sanskrit texts with clear pronunciation, rhythm and expressive delivery.

Addressing the students, Dr. Yagya Ameta highlighted the importance of Sanskrit, describing it as an invaluable heritage of India’s knowledge, culture and philosophy.

The performances were evaluated by Dr. Yogesh Paliwal, convenor and script expert, and Assistant Professor Dr. Murlidhar Paliwal, on pronunciation, voice, rhythm, expression and presentation.

The event was successfully conducted under the guidance of Honorary Director Satish Kumar Sharma. Hemant Kumar Jain proposed the vote of thanks, while students Aarohi Vyas and Ishika Mishra compered the programme.

The event served as an inspiring platform to strengthen awareness and pride among the younger generation towards Sanskrit, Indian culture and the country’s rich knowledge tradition.
