Udaipur: Udaipur-born NRI Rajesh Chaplot has been featured by the internationally renowned Forbes magazine for his ‘Save Time’ campaign, which seeks to raise awareness about the importance and value of time. The feature in Forbes India is being seen as a proud moment for Udaipur and Rajasthan.

Born and brought up in Udaipur, Chaplot began his career in the city and later emerged as a prominent business leader in Uganda. He has also served as an advisor to the President of Uganda for the past six years. In 2019, he received the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman from the President of India. In 2020, the Ugandan President honoured him with the Golden Jubilee Award and the country’s highest civilian honour. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India also recognised him with the International Leader Award in 2018.

Chaplot has held leadership positions as CEO, director and board member with corporate organisations across Uganda, Congo and Tanzania. He is a director of Allied Graphic System and Kamyo TechAge Services and Managing Director of Mangalam Africa Limited.

Turning the Value of Time into a Global Campaign

Chaplot believes that while campaigns are regularly launched to save the environment and conserve water, relatively little attention is given to saving time—the most precious resource in human life. Once lost, time can never be recovered.

With this thought, he launched the ‘Save Time’ campaign to take the message to a wider audience. Forbes India featured the campaign and his achievements in its August edition on page 81. Chaplot is also writing a book on the importance of time, which he believes could particularly benefit young people.

A 1989-batch Chartered Accountant, Chaplot lived in Uganda from 1996 to 2023, where he played significant roles in business, social service, institutional leadership and strengthening India-Uganda relations. He continues to hold leadership positions in business organisations with interests spanning Africa and India.

Chaplot has also written Nandu and Dadu, a book focusing on values and morality among children in the contemporary environment. Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat recently issued a letter of appreciation for the book and Chaplot’s achievements. He is currently working on two more books, Namaste Africa and a book centred on the importance of time.
