Mohanlal Sukhadia University has awarded the Ph.D degree to Dimpy Suhalka for her research on “Economies of Temple: A Study of Selected Indian Temples of Mewar and Malwa Region” She completed her research under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Anil Kothari, Faculty of Management Studies. This is claimed to be the world’s first Ph.D on the subject. As part of her research, she undertook an extensive study of the local, regional, state and national economic impact of major temples, including Shrinathji Temple, Sanwaliya Seth Ji Temple in the Mewar region, and Shri Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple, Ujjain, and Shri Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga Temple, Omkareshwar, in the Malwa region. The research also highlights the economic impact of other prominent temples and pilgrimage centres, including Shri Eklingji, the presiding deity of Mewar; Maa Tripura Sundari Temple, Banswara; and Shri Pavapuri Jain Tirth and Jeev Maitri Dham, Sirohi. The study establishes that Indian temples are not merely centres of religion, faith andspirituality, but also important engines of local, regional, state and national economicdevelopment. The research achievement of Dimpy is being regarded as a significant steptowards bringing the multidimensional economic and social contributions of Indiantemples into the centre of academic discourse. The research further presents the perspective that India’s temple tradition, for centuries, has contributed not only to religious and spiritual life but also to local livelihoods, trade and commercial activities, the service sector, and regional as well as national economic development. Expressing her gratitude, Dimpy Suhalka said that she considered herself fortunate to have been chosen to undertake research on the temples of the Divine. She attributed her achievement to Mahadev, her parents, guru, family members and well-wishers. Scholars and well-wishers associated with education, management and Indian Knowledge Studies congratulated her on this significant academic achievement and extended their best wishes for her future endeavours.
