Udaipur: The Yonex Sunrise Rajasthan State Badminton Sub-Junior Under-17 Championship began on Saturday, with around 450 players from all districts of Rajasthan participating in the tournament.

Tournament Secretary Sudhir Bakshi said the championship is being held at Luv Kush Stadium and Chawat Sports Academy. A total of 190 qualifying-round matches were played on Saturday.

In the Boys’ Under-17 Singles category, Pranshul defeated Praduman Singh 15-3, 15-1, while Tanuj Mahawar beat Darshil 15-6, 15-17, 15-7. Reyansh Bhardwaj defeated Sahil 15-9, 15-17, 16-14, and Tanmay beat Ishwar 15-12, 15-10. Harshvardhan defeated Harshvardhan Poonia 15-10, 9-15, 18-16.

In the Girls’ category, Harshita defeated Falak 15-7, 15-11, while Divyanshi beat Sanskriti 15-9, 15-4 to advance to the next round.

Badminton Association Vice-President Bhagwan Vaishnav said the final qualifying-round matches will be played on Sunday. The winners will advance to the main draw, which will begin on Monday.

The main-draw selection will be conducted at 5 p.m. on Sunday at Luv Kush Stadium.
