Udaipur: On the occasion of World Kidney Day and with the aim of improving care for critically ill kidney patients, Paras Health Udaipur has introduced an advanced Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) system. The initiative is expected to strengthen the hospital’s critical nephrology and urology services, enabling better management of patients who require intensive monitoring and life-saving dialysis support in the ICU.
The therapy helps in continuous blood purification, gradually removing toxins and excess fluids from the body. This controlled and gentle process assists in stabilizing patients suffering from severe kidney complications who may not tolerate conventional dialysis procedures.
The initiative is being led by Dr. Ashutosh Soni, Consultant Nephrologist at the hospital, in collaboration with the nephrology and critical care teams. The aim is to provide specialized support to patients with serious kidney conditions who require continuous monitoring and treatment in intensive care units.
Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) is a specialized form of dialysis primarily used for the most critically ill patients in the ICU. Unlike conventional dialysis, which is usually performed over a few hours, CRRT works continuously for up to 24 hours, slowly filtering the blood to remove toxins and excess fluids. Because the process is gradual, it helps maintain stable blood pressure and is particularly beneficial for patients whose bodies cannot tolerate rapid fluid shifts associated with traditional dialysis.
Kidney disease is emerging as a major public health concern in India. According to studies, about 14% of the population is affected by Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), with the number of cases rising every year. It is estimated that more than 138 million adults in India may be living with CKD, making the country one of the regions with the highest burden of kidney disease globally. Experts also point out that due to low awareness and limited early screening, many patients are diagnosed only at advanced stages of the disease.
Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Ashutosh Soni said that many patients reach hospitals when their kidneys are already severely damaged. This often happens because the early symptoms of kidney disease are mild and easily overlooked. He emphasized that regular health check-ups, proper management of diabetes and hypertension, and early detection of kidney dysfunction can help prevent severe complications that may require intensive treatments like CRRT.
Meanwhile, Dr. Prasoon Kumar, Facility Director at Paras Health Udaipur, highlighted that the therapy offers safer dialysis support for ICU patients with unstable blood pressure. He said the technology enables the clinical team to manage fluid balance and organ support more effectively and in a controlled manner until the patient stabilizes.
CRRT is commonly used in cases of acute kidney injury and other critical conditions where the kidneys are unable to remove toxins from the body effectively. By slowly clearing toxins and balancing fluid levels, the therapy helps reduce stress on vital organs and supports recovery in patients suffering from severe infections, organ failure, or complications after major surgeries.
The treatment also encourages close coordination between nephrologists, urologists, and critical care specialists, ensuring comprehensive management of complex cases that require continuous monitoring.
With this addition, Paras Health Udaipur continues to expand its advanced nephrology, urology, and critical care services, ensuring that patients in Udaipur and nearby regions have access to specialized kidney care when they need it the most.
