Blog Writing and Social Media: New Mediums to Enhance Language Skills – Prof. Hemendra Chandalia

FALNA:Blog writing and social media have emerged as powerful and innovative platforms for young people to enhance and express their language skills. These were the views expressed by Prof. Hemendra Chandalia, Vice President of the Rajasthan Association for Studies in English (RASE), while addressing a one-day national webinar organized jointly by Shri Parshvanath Umed Post Graduate College and RASE.

Prof. Chandalia highlighted that the webinar provided an excellent platform for students to explore new literary genres such as feminist literature, diaspora literature, digital literature, blog writing, and short fiction. He also discussed various career opportunities in journalism, media, and creative writing.

He further announced that under the RASE Students’ Initiative Program, an online magazine would soon be launched to publish creative works of student members. In addition, a webinar will be conducted every three months, and a panel of advisors will be formed to guide and respond to students’ academic queries. RASE also pledged full support to any college or university proposing to organize an annual student conference.

College Principal Prof. Himanshu Mehta inaugurated the webinar on “Contemporary Issues in English Language and Literature Studies” and emphasized that the knowledge of English opens doors to the world, enabling students to access higher education and employment opportunities globally.

Dr. Gautam Sharma, Vice Principal and Head of the English Department, introduced the RASE Students’ Initiative Program and urged students to become members and benefit from its activities.

The webinar also featured poetic and interactive presentations by students Harshdeep, Sadiya, and Pushpa. Palash Sharma, a student from MS University, Vadodara, shared insights from his self-written novel “The Coming of Age.”

Prof. Anant Dadhich, Joint Secretary of RASE and faculty member at Manikya Lal Verma Government PG College, Bhilwara, discussed various literary periods and movements in English literature. RASE General Secretary Prof. Khushwant Singh Kang, in his address, encouraged students to pursue creative writing and introduced diverse literary forms.

More than 300 students from across India registered for the event, with active participation from Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, and West Bengal.

The webinar was efficiently coordinated by Dr. Yudhishthir Sharma, with technical assistance from Vinish Arora and Bhawar Bhati. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Rishi Mathur.
