Mock Drill Conducted at Hindustan Zinc Chanderiya Plant to Tackle Emergency Situation

Chittorgarh – A mock drill was successfully conducted at the Hindustan Zinc’s Chanderiya Lead-Zinc Smelter on Wednesday morning to assess preparedness for emergency situations. The drill simulated a propane gas leakage at the Pyro Plant’s propane storage area, triggering an immediate response from Hindustan Zinc’s administration and the district authorities.

Under the framework of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the emergency response drill was carried out by the Chanderiya Lead-Zinc Smelter unit of Hindustan Zinc. At 11:01 AM, the report of a propane leak in the pyro unit activated the fire brigade, ambulance, and rescue teams, which responded promptly and began containment operations.

District Collector Alok Ranjan and Superintendent of Police Sudhir Joshi were informed immediately. Assistance was also sought from nearby industries, including Birla Cement Works and IOCL Jhalampara.

As part of the mock drill, a coordinated search and rescue operation was initiated. In-house systems like sprinkler systems, fire hydrants, and fire brigades were deployed for swift control. The site emergency controller and location head, Mr. Manas Tyagi, directed operations from the control room, while Safety Head Balchand Patidar, Incident Controllers Pushpendra Meena and Rakesh Durgawat led the control efforts on-site.

The situation was brought under control by Hindustan Zinc’s team before external support could arrive. Sub-Divisional Officer Binu Deval, Deputy Superintendent of Police Gangrar PL Kumawat, Factory & Boiler Senior Inspector Suraj Prakash Jangid, Station Officer Gangrar, and other officials from Police Control Room, Chanderiya Police Station, Tehsildar offices of Gangrar and Chittorgarh, along with ambulances from Shri Sanwaliya Ji General Hospital, 108 Emergency Service, Civil Defence Team, Fire Brigade of Birla Cement and Chittorgarh, GRP, and others participated actively.

Officials present appreciated the preparedness and termed the mock drill as a successful and commendable initiative, emphasizing prompt response and coordination in any disaster situation.

Present during the drill were IOCL Deputy Manager Safety Ankit Kulhari, Chanderiya Lead-Zinc Smelter HR Head Anoop Kumar, Amit Surana, Security Head G. Malesham, Amrish Kumar, Safety Department members Abhishek Kothari, Vinay, Shubham Sahu, Meenakshi Kumawat, Bhagwati Paliwal, and Renu Ringhi.
