Grand Poster Launch of ‘Ravan Hatha’ Documentary in Jaipur

Jaipur: On the concluding day of the “Lok Kala Sangam” program organized by Sanskar Bharati at the Jawahar Kala Kendra, the poster of the documentary film ‘Ravan Hatha’, based on Rajasthan’s ancient folk musical tradition, was unveiled by Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari.

At the event, film director Arvind Chaudhary explained that the documentary was created for the West Zone Cultural Centre, Udaipur, under the Ministry of Culture, with the aim of preserving and promoting the state’s folk art and culture. The film will soon be available to viewers on the official page of the West Zone Centre.

Preserving a Vanishing Heritage

Chaudhary highlighted that the Ravan Hatha is an extremely ancient folk instrument of Rajasthan, traditionally crafted and played with devotion by artists of the Bhopa community. Beyond being a musical instrument, it is a living symbol of local faith, tradition, and history. The documentary was made to prevent this folk heritage from disappearing and to instill awareness and pride among the younger generation. It not only narrates the story of the Ravan Hatha but also brings the essence of Rajasthan’s folk spirit to contemporary audiences.

The director and his team conducted nearly six months of research, visiting various regions of Rajasthan and interacting with Bhopa artists to capture this cultural legacy on film.

Deputy Chief Minister Praises the Initiative

Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari lauded the documentary, emphasizing that organizations like Sanskar Bharati provide new platforms and energy for the promotion of folk art and culture. She added that the Lok Kala Sangam at Jawahar Kala Kendra aims to encourage the state’s rich cultural traditions and honor its artists.

The event was attended by notable personalities including Ashwin Dalvi, Banwari Lal Chejara, Mahavir Murtikar, Naveen Kumar, Sumit Sharma, and Kamlesh Sharma.
