Udaipur: Hon’ble Governor Shri Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde emphasized that universities play a crucial role in making India self-reliant in today’s era of global competition. He stated that education is not just a means of acquiring knowledge, but a strong foundation for nation-building. If universities promote indigenous thinking and innovation, India can establish a distinct identity on the global stage.
The Governor was addressing the उद्घाटन session of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) West Zone Vice Chancellors Meet 2025–26 held at the Dabok campus of Janardan Rai Nagar Rajasthan Vidyapeeth during his visit to Udaipur on Tuesday.
The two-day conference is witnessing participation from Vice Chancellors of universities from Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and other states. Among the distinguished guests present were Minister of State for Public Works, Women & Child Development and Women Empowerment Dr. Manju Baghmar, Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister Dr. Gaurav Vallabh, AIU President Dr. Vinay Pathak, and Secretary General Ms. Pankaj Mittal. Senior officials including B.L. Gurjar and Vice Chancellor Dr. S.S. Sarangdevot welcomed the guests.
Shri Bagde highlighted that concepts like technological nationalism and economic patriotism are not mere slogans but commitments that must be implemented in practice. He urged universities to empower youth through research, innovation, and skill development, enabling them to become job creators. He further stated that a blend of Indian values and modern technology, in line with the New Education Policy, is key to achieving the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
“I Am Just Playing the Role of Jambavan”
Referring to a story from the Ramayana, the Governor said that Lord Hanuman possessed immense strength, but it was Jambavan who reminded him of his powers. Addressing the gathering of eminent educationists, he humbly remarked that he was merely playing the role of Jambavan, inspiring them rather than instructing them.
Students Must Be at the Center of Education System
Shri Bagde stressed that students should remain the focal point of all educational institutions. Policies and programs must revolve around students to enhance their intellectual capabilities. He suggested that every university should uphold the vision: “Our university will bring holistic glory to India, reviving the legacy of Takshashila and Nalanda.”
India’s Knowledge Tradition is Glorious
The Governor noted that India has a rich and glorious knowledge tradition with immense intellectual depth. He remarked that colonial education systems, particularly the Macaulay system, attempted to narrow this legacy. However, the New Education Policy aims to restore India’s intellectual heritage by focusing on holistic development beyond textbooks.
Earlier, Shri Bagde welcomed all delegates to the land of Rajasthan.
