##### Fatehsagar Lake Overflows, Udaipur Rejoices in Festive Spirit

Udaipur, The pride of Udaipur, the world-famous Fatehsagar Lake, overflowed on Tuesday, much to the delight of city residents and tourists. On the eve of Ganesh Chaturthi, Udaipur City MLA Tara Chand Jain, Udaipur Rural MLA Phool Singh Meena, Divisional Commissioner Ms. Pragya Kevalramani, District Collector Namit Mehta, UDA Commissioner Rahul Jain, social worker Gajpal Singh, along with thousands of citizens, performed rituals before formally opening the lake’s gates. The grand moment turned into a festive celebration as the entire city cheered with joy, raising slogans and expressing their happiness at the sight.

Recent continuous rainfall had caused heavy inflow into Udaipur’s interconnected lakes. The water level of Fatehsagar had been rising steadily, reaching 12 feet 2 inches by Tuesday morning against the full capacity of 13 feet, and by afternoon it touched 12 feet 10 inches. Water Resources Department officials proposed opening the gates by 4 pm. Before the scheduled time, a siren was sounded to alert the public, and security personnel ensured safety downstream to prevent any mishap. After a ceremonial coconut-breaking and floral offering to the water deity by the District Collector, one after another, four gates of Fatehsagar were opened amidst chants and celebrations.

Overflow Brings Waves of Joy
As soon as water began gushing through the spillway, the city erupted in joy. Citizens and tourists gathered on the Paal (promenade), taking selfies, recording reels, and raising slogans to welcome the overflowing lake. The crowd continued to swell late into the night, transforming the lakeside into a vibrant celebration spot.

Greetings and Caution from Leaders
MLA Jain, MLA Meena, the Divisional Commissioner, and the Collector extended congratulations to the people of Udaipur for the overflowing lakes, dams, and reservoirs. At the same time, they appealed to exercise caution while visiting water bodies to avoid any untoward incidents.

Earlier Overflow Than Last Year
Every year, residents eagerly await the opening of Fatehsagar’s gates, considered an auspicious and celebratory event. This year, the overflow occurred nearly 13 days earlier than the previous year. In 2024, the gates had been opened on September 7, coinciding with Ganesh Chaturthi.
