Udaipur, Under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, the Rajasthan government has reaffirmed its commitment to “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” by initiating comprehensive measures for the upliftment of tribal regions. Aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of an inclusive and self-reliant India, the state government has formulated and implemented impactful policies to ensure holistic development in these areas. The Tribal Area Development Department is advancing rapidly across education, health, sports, water management, employment, and cultural preservation, reflecting the spirit of inclusive progress.
Chief Minister Sharma’s administration is translating tribal icon Birsa Munda’s ideals — “Our Land, Our Culture, Our Rights” — into action through its people-centric development policies.
Major Boost to Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) Fund
In a significant step toward tribal welfare, the government has increased the TSP fund from ₹1,000 crore to ₹1,500 crore. A new initiative, the Govind Guru Tribal Area Development Scheme, has been launched to promote community forest rights and development. New residential schools are being set up in Devla-Kotra (Udaipur) and Jaswantpura (Jalore), along with a Sahariya Tribal Sports Academy in Shahabad (Baran).
To enhance early education and nutrition, 250 new Maa-Badi centers are being established, and from FY 2025–26, the honorarium for teachers, women assistants, and health workers at these centers will be increased by 10 percent.
Strengthening Education and Skill Development
The state government is committed to providing quality education and skill training to tribal youth. Currently, 446 ashram hostels house over 25,000 students who receive free accommodation, meals, and education. The mess allowance for hostel students has been raised from ₹3,000 to ₹3,250 per month.
Similarly, 23 residential schools educate over 3,800 students, while Model Public Residential Schools at Dheekli (Udaipur) and Surpur (Dungarpur) have become centers of academic excellence.
Around 10,000 students are enrolled in 30 Eklavya Model Residential Schools, benefiting from digital learning and sports facilities. Under the Mukhyamantri Anuprati Coaching Yojana, 878 girl students across 8 hostels are receiving free coaching and accommodation for competitive exams.
Institutes like Rajasthan Skill and Livelihood Development Corporation (RSLDC), CIPET Jaipur, and IDTR Relmagra are imparting technical and vocational training to thousands of tribal youth. At Ashok Leyland Training Centre, Relmagra, 25 youths have been trained as heavy vehicle drivers, achieving self-reliance.
Encouraging Sports and Nurturing Talent
To promote sporting excellence, 13 sports academies train 895 students, with the mess allowance increased to ₹4,000 per month. Coaches, equipment, and competition opportunities are being expanded under CM Sharma’s directives.
In the State-level Eklavya School Cultural Competition, thousands of students showcased their talents, and four secured third place nationally, bringing pride to Rajasthan.
Water Conservation Through Public Participation
Community-led initiatives in water conservation, anicut construction, canal strengthening, and restoration of water structures have become models of sustainability. The Janjati Bhagidari Yojana ensures at least 30% public participation in projects such as schools, roads, drinking water, and community buildings. The Chief Minister emphasizes that true development happens only with community involvement, a principle reflected throughout these programs.
Restoring Tribal Pride and Heritage
The government is preserving ancient heritage and reviving the glory of tribal heroes. A budget of ₹25 crore has been sanctioned for memorials in Dungarpur, Banswara, and Udaipur, including the Veer Balika Kalibai Museum. Basic amenities are being developed at sacred sites such as Sitabari, Kamalnath Mahadev, and Jawar Mata Temple.
Under the PM-JANMAN Scheme, 17 multipurpose centers are being built in Baran’s Sahariya region, with 8 centers already completed. Through the Swachh Project, 4,560 health workers are contributing to TB Mukt Bharat and Sickle Cell Anemia control missions.
Holistic Growth Through Innovation
Innovative programs are driving all-round development in tribal areas. Under the “Jaykar Program” (a joint initiative of the Central and State Governments and ISRO), students from Eklavya Model Residential Schools, Udaipur, received space science training. The establishment of the Banaphool Design Studio at Manikya Lal Verma Tribal Research Institute promotes tribal art preservation and marketing.
The “Project Chitera” initiative is reviving Mandana and traditional art in schools and hostels. A Satellite Center for Tribal Health & Research has been established at Aburoad (Sirohi) with support from AIIMS Jodhpur, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a drone-based medicine delivery service on October 29, 2024.
‘Amrit Kalash Yojana’ — A Model of Community Participation
The Amrit Kalash Yojana, launched with CSR and NGO partnerships, enables students to visit institutions like IIM Udaipur, IIT Jodhpur, NLU, and KVKs. In collaboration with Magic Bus India Foundation, life skills training has started in 43 schools and 450 hostels across 25 districts.
Under the “My Mission” initiative, 40 students received free coaching for Rajasthan Civil Services Exam 2024.
Supported by RSMML Ltd. CSR, Rajasthan’s tribal lacrosse team won a silver medal at the Asian Championships in Uzbekistan. In the 3rd National Lacrosse Championship (2025–26), 55 tribal athletes won 5 gold and 1 bronze medal.
Partnerships with UNFPA have led to the launch of the “Communication Setu Virtual Learning Platform.”
Campaigns like “One Tree Every Year” and “Hamara Kaksha, Hamara Vriksha” are strengthening environmental conservation awareness.
Honoring Excellence in Tribal Development
Individuals and institutions contributing to education, art, sports, and social welfare in tribal regions are being honored. On October 4, 2024, during the Aadi-Gaurav Samman Ceremony, President Droupadi Murmu felicitated 17 distinguished personalities and organizations for their outstanding contributions.
On November 15, 2024, during the 150th birth anniversary celebration of Birsa Munda in Banswara, 27 tribal icons were honored under the theme “Navadi-Yugdhar Praneta Samagam”, symbolizing the emergence of a new consciousness in tribal society.
