Udaipur – An awareness program was organized near the main gate of the Super Specialty Hospital building on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day, under the joint auspices of the Department of Community Medicine and the Department of Oncology at Rabindranath Tagore Medical College.
The event was graced by Dr. Vipin Mathur, Principal and Controller of Rabindranath Tagore Medical College, as the chief guest, and Dr. R.L. Suman, Superintendent of Maharana Bhupal Hospital, as the special guest. On this occasion, patients and hospital staff who had successfully quit tobacco were honored.
In his address, Dr. Vipin Mathur emphasized that the Tobacco Cessation Centre (TCC) at the college had been established a year ago as per central government directives and is functioning efficiently in Room 134 of the OPD Block at MB Hospital. He also directed that more outreach programs be conducted in the future to raise awareness among the public.
Dr. Anjali Mathur, Head of the Department of Community Medicine, provided detailed statistics about the work done at the TCC over the past year. She informed that 2,297 patients had received counseling and treatment at the center, and 118 of them had successfully quit tobacco.
Other speakers included Additional Principal Dr. Kirti, Dr. Narendra Rathore (Head, Radiation Oncology), and Dr. Dilip (Assistant Professor, Psychiatry). Senior faculty members Dr. Rupa Sharma, Dr. Mahendra Singh Rathore, and other senior doctors from the Cancer Department were also present.
Nursing Officer Harish Chaubisa conducted the program and informed that around 63 kilograms of tobacco products had been confiscated and disposed of from the hospital premises. Visitors who had overcome tobacco addiction also shared their experiences with the audience.
In conclusion, Dr. Ashish Jain, Assistant Professor in Community Medicine and TCC In-Charge, extended a vote of thanks and shared his insights on the impact of the program.
Additionally, the Department of Community Medicine, under the leadership of Dr. Anjali Mathur, conducted public awareness activities through health talks at UHTC Dhanmandi and RHTC Vallabhnagar.
