Udaipur Rural Congress Protests Against ‘Slip Government,’ Alleges Development Paralysis in Rajasthan

Udaipur: The Indian National Congress’s Udaipur Rural District unit staged a protest outside the Divisional Commissioner’s Office in Udaipur, alleging that development work across the division has come to a standstill due to the “anti-people policies” of the Rajasthan government.

According to District Congress Media In-charge Dinesh Audichya, the party organized the demonstration to demand the resumption of development projects that have reportedly been stalled for the past two years in all Assembly constituencies under the Udaipur Rural District Congress Committee. A memorandum was submitted to the Divisional Commissioner highlighting public hardships caused by the halted projects.

State Congress General Secretary Lal Singh Jhala alleged that the “double-engine government” came to power by misleading voters and has since focused only on removing beneficiaries’ names from welfare schemes and discontinuing previous Congress government initiatives. He claimed that development activities have completely stopped and warned of larger agitations if the government does not change its functioning.

Udaipur Rural District Congress President Raghubir Singh Meena accused the state government of being “intoxicated with power” and indifferent to public concerns. He alleged that discussions on development issues are being avoided in the Assembly and criticized the government for taking credit for projects that were approved, funded, and tendered during the previous Congress administration. He further claimed that more than 250 dilapidated government school buildings out of 475 have been demolished without reconstruction, forcing students in rural areas to study in temporary tin sheds or under trees.

Meena also alleged delays in Panchayati Raj and municipal elections and claimed that rural road projects and works under the Jal Jeevan Mission have been halted due to lack of funds, causing inconvenience to villagers and issues related to drinking water supply.

Former minister Mangi Lal Garasia stated that the people of Rajasthan are suffering due to internal differences between Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.

After the protest, Congress leaders submitted a memorandum demanding the immediate restart of stalled development works in the division.

Several Congress leaders and workers were present at the demonstration, including Udaipur City District Congress President Fateh Singh Rathore, Rajasthan INTUC President Jagdish Raj Shrimali, former Congress candidate Vivek Katara, PCC General Secretary Suresh Suthar, PCC Secretary Bhim Singh Chundawat, former MLA Sajjan Katara, and others.

The protest proceedings were conducted by Dr. Sanjeev Rajpurohit, while former District Congress President Kachru Lal Chaudhary delivered the vote of thanks.
