Dialogue Program on Drug De-Addiction Awareness

Under the fourth phase of the anti-drug campaign organized by Inner Wheel Club of Udaipur, an interactive dialogue session was conducted between college students and senior physician Dr. P. C. Jain. The session focused on how to effectively run a de-addiction campaign and how to help individuals overcome substance addiction.

During the interaction, student Chetan Sharma asked whether addiction can lead to memory loss. Dr. Jain explained that substances such as marijuana and alcohol can significantly impair students’ memory, sometimes even leading to complete memory loss. He stated that drugs are chemicals that affect the body and brain’s functioning, disturbing thinking, understanding, and behavior.

In response to Sonu’s query, Dr. Jain highlighted that signs of substance abuse during adolescence include noticeable changes in behavior and lifestyle. Savitri Yadav and Raji Parik discussed the impact of addiction on academic performance, to which Dr. Jain replied that academic standards continuously decline due to substance abuse. He emphasized that the legality of a drug does not mean it is safe—substances like tobacco, alcohol, and even doctor-prescribed medicines can have harmful side effects on the body.

Answering Abhay Pratap’s question, Dr. Jain stated that prolonged use of intoxicants inevitably leaves harmful effects on both the body and mind. In another discussion, it was explained that addiction can lead to mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, panic attacks, irritability, and anger. Monu Meena also interacted with Dr. Jain during the session.

In his PowerPoint presentation, Dr. Jain particularly emphasized screen addiction, tobacco addiction, and alcohol addiction, explaining preventive measures for each. He noted that screen addiction has disrupted sleep patterns and reduced interpersonal communication, and suggested practicing “digital fasting” for some time each day to minimize its impact. He warned that tobacco and gutka, especially when combined with alcohol, can severely damage even a healthy body. He stressed the importance of seeking immediate treatment once addiction is identified.

Delivering a strong message, Dr. Jain stated, “Addiction is a disease, and it is treatable.” He emphasized that this message should reach every affected family, particularly to support women who often suffer due to addiction in the household, so that early intervention can be ensured.

On this occasion, free distribution of de-addiction medicines was also carried out by Dr. P. C. Jain.

Students including Priyanka, Raji, Monika, Sonu, Savitri, Chetan, and Abhay took on the role of anti-drug ambassadors during the program. Dean Dr. Drishti Solanki requested Dr. Jain to organize such awareness programs every six months. Warden Sarla Ji and the Matron also expressed their desire to conduct similar programs regularly.

During the program, Dr. P. C. Jain elaborated on the harmful effects of addiction. Club President Chandrakala Kothari explained in detail the history, objectives, and service initiatives of the Inner Wheel, highlighting its core values of service, friendship, and international understanding.

Chandrakala Kothari and Advocate Babita Jain also gave a practical demonstration of the “Global Sign,” explaining how it can be used in emergency situations for personal safety and to seek or offer help when needed. Club members Chandrakala Kothari, Advocate Babita Jain, and Nisha Agarwal were present at the event.
